Application
Apply for a character here. As stated in the FAQ the character limit is 4.

Here is a more detailed rundown of what we are expecting of you in your application:

Your Name: Who you are.
LJ Username: Your personal Livejournal account.
Email/AIM/Other: Some way for us to contact you. Email is a must.

Character's Name: Who you are apping. Their full name, please.
Series: The series your character is from. If you are taking a character from a certain point in their canon, this is also a good place to put that.

History: We ask that you write out the key events in your character's history. We're not asking for several pages, especially if the history is a long and detailed one, but anything you consider to be vital to the character's life must be placed here. Ultimately, a minimum of at least three full paragraphs should suffice. We want to know that you know the source material. (If the character you are applying for has a more limited history and you are not sure if you can write three paragraphs, then write as much as you can and mention this at the beginning of your history section and the mods will take this detail into account.)
Personality: This is a very important section because it proves to us that you know your character well enough to play them. We ask that you take plenty of time explaining this, and please don't skip on the details. Again, a minimum of three full paragraphs (a paragraph is considered five complete sentences) is required for this section, and it will not count against you if you write the minimum. Just remember that the deeper you dig into a character's personality, the better.
Powers and Abilities: What sort of powers, if any, does your character have? Also, would any of them have to be diluted for the sake of the game?
Memory Lost: What has your character forgotten? For details on the different kinds of losses, see the FAQ. If none of the already established types of losses seem sufficient for your character, then you may PM the Mod journal, or IM/e-mail one of the mods with a suggestion on a new loss and we will get back to you as soon as possible. In the event that the mods are busy and do not get back to you soon enough, you may include your idea of a new kind of loss in your application and we will survey it then. Bear in mind, that if you decide to put it in your application and the Mods do not agree with your proposal, then we will ask you to choose a different loss. You may respond with yet another proposal of a new kind of loss or you may choose from the list we already have.
Reason: This is absolutely important. This will let us know why this memory is so important to your character and why we would possibly want to take it away from them. If the reasoning isn't valid enough you will be asked for a different memory. Try to give us at least a small paragraph (3 sentences or so) as it will improve your chances of gaining approval.

First Person Sample: A first person sample is written purely as dialogue and any action that happens in between speech, or any kind of tone change is put in brackets, much like a script. For example:

Where am I? How did I get here?

[Their voice becomes a timid whisper.] How do I get home?

[They hurriedly walk down the street, looking for someone, anyone.]

First person posts are what players post in the main community as a broadcast to other players over a communicator. In other games first person is seen in journal entries or even in-person interaction, but here, first person posts are voice and text transmissions over the communicators only. All interactions that are in person are in third person format.

First person samples should show us the character's personality clearly simply through the way they speak, how the character words things so on and so forth. We want to see how well you understand their "voice" without the help of too much introspection that one would find in a third person post. Thus, the first person should be a minimum of 100 words and the majority of the sample should be dialoge, you may have action in brackets of course, but it should not be more than the "voice." However, if your character is not one for many words and you feel that you must write a majority of action as opposed to dialogue to stay in character, just make a note of this fact in parenthesis at the beginning of your first person sample and the mods will take it into account while reviewing your application.

Third Person Sample: The third person example is how log entries, as well as some comment log entries will be written. However, keep in mind that the more detail and introspection you would like to use, the more likely a log would be better suited than a comment log. For example:
She walked to the store, and brought a weapon with her. It was cold outside, and she berated herself for not bringing a jacket. What was I thinking?

This example should demonstrate your ability to capture the character’s introspective thoughts and feelings, as well as assure us of your capability to form cohesive and coherent sentences. We are not here to police grammar; however, if grammatical mistakes make the example illegible, it is likely that the logs would be written the same way, and we will ask you to resubmit another sample. If a coherent sample of writing cannot be produced, we will be unable to accept the application.

We require around 200-300 words for the third person sample. Feel free to write more than 300, but anything less than 200 will not be accepted and we will ask you to write another.

-----------------------------

Copy and paste the application below and get to apping! We will do our best to get to every app ASAP, but please be patient all the same. On the whole, all apps are processed over the course of the week but particularly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, thus you should not expect a reply before Sunday night. However, it is possible that the mods may find time before then, but you should not count on it. Lastly, do not join the main communities until your app has been reviewed and approved by a moderator.

Decamber 2, 2009: ATTENTION to all people holding and apping: In the next two to three weeks, the game will be running at a slower pace. We tell you this so that you are not discouraged upon being accepted (if you are). This is because the majority of players being either in High School or College are going through their Final Exams and Projects during this time. We have some fun events planned for when the semester, term, quarter etc. ends and the holidays begin that we are certain will help the pace pick back up quite nicely and be exciting for all to participate in. In the meantime, spread the word to all your friends so the game can have more players for when that time comes! The more the merrier!

PLEASE USE THE BELOW FORM TO APPLY:

Etna app, part 1

Well, here's my app. I hope it's good!

Character's Name: Etna
Series: Disgaea

History:
Etna is a demoness from the Netherworld. She was originally a commoner who was looked down upon by the nobles and lived a difficult life, until Krichevskoy, the king of the Netherworld, took her under his wing one day, being a man who actually wanted to end the discrimination between nobles and commoners. Serving the king directly, Etna quickly grew to greatly admire him and his ideals, and held a deep respect for him. But eventually, a witch from the human world arrived and met the king, and the two quickly fell in love. Etna soon came to despise the witch. She was jealous of her. Jealous of the attention she received from the king. But there was nothing she could do about it, and eventually, the king married the witch and had a son named Laharl with her.
Etna hated and envied Laharl. But then, long after the queen's death, Etna was asked by the king to take care of Laharl if the king should die. Despite Etna's feelings of hatred toward Laharl, she promised that she would raise Laharl to be the next king if Krichevskoy couldn't. And eventually, the king did indeed die. But before Etna could fulfill her promise to the king, her memories of the promise were stolen by a vampire named Maderas, who manipulated Etna into trying to kill the prince so that Maderas could take the throne for himself. Etna poisoned Laharl, putting him in a coma for two years. After Laharl's awakening, Etna worked as a double agent between him and Maderas, ultimately betraying Maderas and taking her memories back from him by force.

Personality:
On the outside, Etna is a violent girl, prone to outbursts of rage over even minor issues. She has a sharp tongue, and tends to take verbal jabs at those around her. She is rather sneaky as well. While she is much more caring and rational than she appears, that isn't saying much when it comes to a select few people, especially the Prinnies, who she treats as her own personal punching bags.
Her one soft spot is for King Krichevskoy, the person she admires the most. She would do just about anything for his sake, and holds him in even higher regard than herself. She very nearly sacrificed her own life to save him before he died, and only chose to live because he wanted her to.
Etna is highly sensitive about her figure. It is not at all a wise idea to mention her flat chest or lack of curves around her. She often wears skimpy outfits that accentuate what little physique she has in an attempt to hide this fact.
Etna also has a great fondness for sweets, particularly chocolates and fruits, and can sometimes be seen with a large grocery bag full of them. She loves sweets enough to kill for them... literally. She has on at least one occasion sent an army of a thousand Prinnies on a mission just to fetch ingredients for her dessert.

Powers and Abilities:
Etna is an expert at wielding a spear. Her powers include flight (limited due to her small wings), super strength, energy blasts, and being able to summon exploding penguin-like creatures called Prinnies. The energy blasts' power would most likely need to be toned down, and the summoning gotten rid of completely, unless the Prinnies can be NPCs.

Memory Lost: King Krichevskoy.
Reason: She had almost nothing to live for before he reached his hand out to her, and she remained loyal to him even after the first time she lost her memory of him.

First Person Sample:
Ugh...! I'm really pissed off right now. Somebody stole my pudding from the fridge! That bastard... I went all the way to the Sea of Gehenna to get that pudding! It wasn't for them! I swear I'm gonna hunt down whoever did this and beat the hell out of them!

(Third person sample in the next post)

Third Person Sample:
Etna walked into the prince's bedchamber, staring at the large pile of weapons she had left by the prince's coffin. She had been spending the better part of the last several days trying to wake him up from the poison-induced coma she put him in two years ago. She opened the coffin and peered inside... yep, he was still sleeping like a baby. She sighed.
"Wake up... wake up!"

She began to kick the coffin. "Come on! Wake up, will ya?! Why doesn't this little brat wake up already?" Finally, she resorted to reaching into the weapon pile and screamed, "WAKE UP!" before slamming a comically huge wooden mallet into the prince's body, to no avail. Next was the jackhammer. Still nothing. She tried the spear after that. Nope. She then pinched her nose and pulled a smelly sock from the pile, but even that couldn't wake up the prince. Finally, she pulled a rocket launcher from the pile. "Alright." She locked onto the prince at a dangerously close range. "Eat THIS!" she shouted as several rockets flew from the firearm and exploded against the coffin, turning it into a burning, flaming heap, and yet the prince still did not budge. Etna sighed in defeat. She had only one weapon left. Out of options, she slowly pointed the pistol at him...

Character's Name: Etna
Series: Disgaea (taken from after Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories)

History:
Etna is a demoness from the Netherworld. She was originally a commoner who was looked down upon by the nobles and lived a difficult life, with only a pet dog to keep herself happy, but eventually, the dog was killed by the nobles for trying to steal food from the castle. That was when Krichevskoy, the king of the Netherworld, took Etna under his wing, being a man who actually wanted to end the discrimination between nobles and commoners.
But before Etna could fulfill her promise to the king, her memories of the promise were stolen by a vampire named Maderas, who manipulated Etna into trying to kill the prince so that Maderas could take the throne for himself, promising to return her memories to her if she did what he asked. Etna poisoned Laharl, putting him in a coma for two years. Over the course of these two years, Etna purchased a large squadron of penguin-like creatures called Prinnies, which were actually sinful humans whose souls were put in penguin suits to perform slave labor for demons after they died. After Laharl's awakening, Etna worked as a double agent between him and Maderas.
During a raid on the palace of a former vassal who had stolen many things from the castle after the king's death, Etna came across an old painting of the king. Looking at the painting caused her heart to ache, and she didn't know why. It only served to remind her of how important to her the memories she lost were.
After reporting to Maderas that Laharl was still alive, Etna was given another order to set up a trap for him. She took an embarrassing candid photo of Laharl (it's never explained in the games exactly what Laharl is doing in the photo) to give to Maderas, who used it to blackmail Laharl into agreeing to duel him for the throne. The duel turned out to be an ambush, but ultimately, Etna betrayed Maderas and helped Laharl defeat him, taking her memories back from him by force. Having learned that Etna was simply using Laharl as bait for her plan, Laharl was angry, but admitted that he admired Etna's sneakiness, and appointed her as his right hand demon.

Part 2
[info]crazedninja
2009-07-16 05:14 am UTC (link)
Three years after the events of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Etna got into an argument with Laharl, which resulted in her leaving the castle and looking for a different Netherworld to conquer by herself. She eventually arrived in a Netherworld called Veldime, ruled by a powerful Overlord named Zenon. After several days of searching for the Overlord with no results, she finally spotted Zenon's daughter, Princess Rozalin, and attempted to use her to locate him. However, Rozalin had never even met her father, let alone known where he was. Later, Etna was accidentally summoned by Rozalin's ally, Adell, who had attempted to summon the "Strongest Demon in the World" without naming a specific demon. However, not only did Adell end up summoning Etna, but the botched summoning reduced her level to 1. (and yes, this is the actual in-game explanation. There is almost no fourth wall when it comes to stats in the Disgaea games) Etna, angered, decided to stalk Adell until she regained her levels.
While searching for an herb that could potentially restore her levels, Etna ran into Laharl, who had come to Veldime looking for her. Suspecting that Laharl stole the herb, Etna demanded that he hand it over. However, it turned out that Laharl ate the herb because he was hungry. Etna attacked Laharl in a rage, but was easily defeated. Before Laharl could take her back, though, he was forced to retreat when he accidentally awakened Rozalin's true power.
Somewhere along the line after the events of Disgaea 2, Etna reconciled with Laharl, as shown in the epilogue.

Personality:
On the outside, Etna is a violent girl, prone to outbursts of rage over even minor issues. She has a sharp tongue, and tends to take verbal jabs at those around her. She is rather sneaky as well. While she is much more caring and rational than she appears, that isn't saying much when it comes to a select few people, especially the Prinnies, who she treats as her own personal punching bags, and sometimes as furniture.
Her one soft spot is for King Krichevskoy, the person she admires the most. She would do just about anything for his sake, and holds him in even higher regard than herself. She very nearly sacrificed her own life to save him before he died, and only chose to live because he wanted her to.
Like much of the cast of Disgaea, Etna has a knack for breaking the fourth wall, and will often refer to levels and titles as if they were actual elements of the Disgaea universe, which they essentially are. She has even "hacked" her title to be displayed as "Beauty Queen", rather than "Demon Lord", her actual title. She also acts out "Next Episode" skits between chapters in the first game, which are openly acknowledged by the other characters.
Etna is highly sensitive about her figure. It is not at all a wise idea to mention her flat chest or lack of curves around her. She often wears skimpy outfits that accentuate what little physique she has in an attempt to hide this fact.
Etna also has a great fondness for sweets, particularly chocolate and fruit, and can sometimes be seen with a grocery bag full of them. (as seen in the Disgaea 2 manga)

Powers and Abilities:
Etna is an expert at wielding a spear. Her powers include flight (limited due to her small wings), super strength, energy blasts, and being able to summon Prinnies out of nowhere.

Character's Name: Minamimoto Sho
Series: The World Ends With You, post-game.

History:
Nothing is known of Minamimoto's existence before becoming a Reaper. At eighteen years old, he becomes the youngest Officer in history; however, Sho had his sights set much higher, lusting after the role of Composer and willing to do just about anything to obtain it. Aided of a "Fallen Angel," he receives information regarding the Composer's identity and his Realground Frequency vibe.

He first attempts to off the Composer in the Realground--the living plane of existence--in a hit and run shootout, but fails to do so. However, after this event he is taught the Taboo Noise refinery techniques by the very same "Fallen Angel" and begins to set his second plot into motion.

In the second consecutive week of the Reaper's Game, Minamimoto plays the role as Game Master. He intends to use this week to target and weaken, if not destroy, the Composer and his partner. He intends to use the Taboo Noise to get rid of the other Players without having to give out daily missions and Reapers who will get in his way. He goes AWOL after the second day and skips the daily missions for three days as he prepares.

On the 7th day, however, his transgressions have been reported to the Conductor, who sends out the mission to have the maverick Reaper erased. Minamimoto has holed himself up at the top of Pork City and has used his powers to create an imaginary number plane. After a bit of confusion at having the two Players barge in on his preparations and then some more mind-manipulation for Neku, he fights the pact and is defeated. He however, uses a Level i Flare to erase himself and potentially the Composer.

However, Minamimoto is quite like a cockroach. He loves garbage, thrives in filth, no one really wants him around and no matter how many times you try to get rid of him, he'll just keep coming back. In the later part of the third week, he makes his return, refined through the Taboo Refinery Sigil with a (harder) better, faster, stronger body with power rivaling that of the Composer himself. After completely trashing Wildkat Café, he encounters Neku and Beat, and after giving them a fight they couldn't handle, goes off in attempt to locate and overthrow the Composer.

Of course, being one of the game's main antagonists, things don't go as planned. He was "retired" as the Composer later put it, crushed beneath a vending machine and truck.

But as previously stated, the ex-Officer is extremely difficult to get rid of, and he managed to survive the crushing (no pun intended) defeat.

Minamimoto Sho | The World Ends With You | 2/4
[info]pyffamus_prime
2009-07-18 08:11 am UTC (link)
Personality:
Minamimoto is a crazed genius, a tormented artist, and a no-good punk all thrown together in a 3-in-1 packaged deal. But like many great geniuses, he’s rather screwed up in the head. He is highly neurotic and perfectionist—once he is set on an idea, it becomes his obsession—and exhibits many sociopathic traits. He is incapable of feelings of empathy and guilt, shows blatant disregard for social norms and rules, is highly aggressive and shows inclinations towards violent behavior, and finally, is almost perpetually irritable.

To say he is arrogant would be a vast understatement. Megalomaniacal, Sho believes all people to be beneath him, nothing more than “worthless 000s”; his greatly exception intelligence only amplifies these feeling of superiority. He is loud, rather obnoxious, self-centered, and power-hungry. His actions concerning others are done purely out of self-interest and gain. However, despite his supposed perfection, Minamimoto has one hell of a temper. He is very easily irritated and once angered … well, God have mercy on their poor souls.

Mathematics is his obsession—it holds true to the only things that matter to him: perfection and beauty—and this becomes apparent the very moment he opens his big mouth. He speaks in a strange mix of Japanese and mathematics and can hardly resist from cracking a math-related joke or some form of calculation in a conversation. He is an “unconventional aesthetic” and a self-proclaimed artist, creating large sculptures that appear to be nothing more than garbage heaps. Each “masterpiece,” as he calls them, is meticulously calculated to be perfectly stable for climbing and/or perching atop of.

Character's Name: Sonic the Hedgehog
Series: Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic is my name, redundancy’s my game!)

History:
Sonic's first appearance was in Sonic the Hedgehog 1. Not much is known about his past, or what he did before this point, at least not in this canon storyline. But since the beginning, Sonic's main goal has been to defeat Robotnik, and stop him from getting his hands on the Chaos Emeralds. As time goes on, Robotnik's plans got more and more intricate. Sometime after the first game, Sonic met Tails, and they became fast friends. Whereas Sonic had his speed, Tails had two tails, enabling him to fly. Sonic chased Robotnik up to his Death Egg, where he encountered a robot that looked just like him. After more fighting, Sonic escaped from the Death Egg, and flew down as Super Sonic, meeting up with Tails.

Sonic, as Super Sonic, lands on the wing of Tails' Tornado, and they head to the legendary Floating Island (Now called Angel Island), in search of Robotnik. Upon their arrival, Sonic is knocked over by a red echidna named Knuckles, who proceeds to take the Chaos Emeralds from Sonic, and runs away. As it turns out, Robotnik is once again behind this mess and tricked Knuckles into thinking that Sonic was after his Chaos Emeralds, which he actually planned on using to rebuild his Death Egg. Knuckles, believing Robotnik, constantly gets in Sonic's and Tails' way to try and stop them from getting any further. Naturally, it doesn't work. Sonic, once again, halts Robotnik's work on rebuilding the Death Egg, and it crashes, landing on the Lava Reef's volcano. The Chaos Emeralds are transported to the Hidden Palace and become Super Emeralds. Robotnik decides to go after Knuckles' Master Emerald. Once Knuckles realizes he's been tricked, he chooses to help Sonic and Tails. Sonic and Tails run into Metal Sonic and defeat him, and Sonic once again finds himself in the Death Egg, which they destroy. Robotnik escapes with the Master Emerald, but is easily defeated by Sonic and his use of the Super Emeralds to become Hyper Sonic.

Soon after this ordeal, Sonic learns that Robotnik is alive and now after the seven Time Stones on the Little Planet. Sonic goes to the Little Planet to try and stop Robotnik. To make matters worse, Robotnik has recreated a new and improved Metal Sonic, who has kidnapped a young female hedgehog named Amy Rose. So not only must Sonic get the Time Stones, but he also has to save Amy from Metal Sonic. And ever since then, Amy has been following Sonic, trying to get his attention.

Sonic seemingly disappears for quite a long time, as he can't bear to be in one place for too long without something to do, and is found relaxing in Station Square, a metropolitan-esque city. Once again, he reunites with Tails, after rescuing him from his crashed plane. They once again cross paths with Dr. Robotnik (who, at this point everyone refers to as Eggman) who unveils his new master plan. To use a water creature named Chaos from the past to demolish Station Square. The creature grows by absorbing the power of the chaos Emeralds, and the legend says that with all 7 Emeralds, Chaos will become invincible. Once more, Sonic and Tails have to collect the Chaos Emeralds before Eggman does. They meet old friends along the way, including Knuckles and Amy (unfortunately for Sonic). Eventually, Eggman manages to get his hands on all 7 Emeralds. By using the positive power from the Emeralds, Sonic turns into Super Sonic and defeats Perfect Chaos, returning his to his original state. After that is all done, Sonic once again runs off (and leaves the cleanup of Station Square to someone else, undoubtedly...)

Sonic the Hedgehog [2/3]

The next time Sonic is spotted, its back in Station Square. And he'd been arrested by the military, aka GUN, for apparently no reason. But as it turns out, there's a black hedgehog wreaking havoc, and everyone (for some reason) thinks it's Sonic. Sonic manages (with very little effort) to break free. He evades pursuit for a little while, but then runs into another hedgehog, much like himself. He realizes the military's mistake, and confronts the strange, learning that his name is Shadow. Shadow escapes and Sonic is immediately recaptured and thrown into a cell on Prison Island. Tails and Amy break him free. Soon after that, Sonic runs into Shadow again and they duke it out, but are interrupted when they hear that the island is about to explode. Sonic and Shadow part ways, and Sonic finds himself back in the city. Eventually, they sneak into Eggman's base, and fly up to the Space Colony ARK. Amy gets taken once more by Eggman, and once more, Sonic has to save her. Unfortunately for him, he's led into a trap and ejected into space. Eggman blows up the capsule Sonic's in, and everyone else believes him to be dead. But Sonic somehow manages to use Chaos Control, Shadow's signature move, to save himself. He tracks down Shadow again, and they have a race to the Eclipse Cannon. The Biolizard, the prototype of the Ultimate Lifeform, starts attacking, and Shadow shows up to save them, and then the Biolizard used Chaos Control and fuses with the ARK, intent on crashing it into Earth. Sonic and Shadow turn into their Super forms, and fight alongside each other to stop it, and succeed, but Shadow falls to the Earth, believed to be dead.

They return to Earth and from there have many other adventures (going after Metal Sonic once again, helping out Shadow and trying to get him to do good deeds, by being really obnoxious and pissing Shadow off, saving a princess from a bunch of stuff that never existed, and becoming a Werehog by some freak accident on Eggman's ship)

Personality:
Sonic is often described as being adventurous and fun-loving, but can be short-tempered, stubborn, and cocky at times. He enjoys teasing Knuckles, because Knuckles just makes it too easy, but still considers Knuckles to be one of his close friends. While these things are true, Sonic is also a good person, a true hero at heart. He helps people, for the sake of helping them. He wouldn't turn his back on anyone in need. While he'll always help someone in need, because it's the right thing to do, it helps ease the boredom a supersonic speed demon like him is sure to experience through. That being said, while helping before is a good deterrent to boredom, it's not the only reason for his actions. He believes strongly in the ideal that you don't need a reason to help someone.

Sonic is willing to do anything to save his friends if they need him to (Amy, more often than anyone else, it seems). He fights Robotnik countless times to save the world from him and his destructive machines. In the same light, he'll even work with Robotnik, albeit hesitantly, to stop greater evils. While he knows he's a hero, he prefers to just be called "Sonic" rather than have titles associated with him.

He loves to run, and loves eating chili dogs. There aren't too many other things aside from those he would be doing, aside from saving the world.

Powers and Abilities: Supersonic speed, using rings as energy, using wind based attacks like Sonic Wind, and with a Chaos Emerald, he can imitate Shadow’s Chaos Control. With all seven, he can turn Super. but idk about Chaos Emeralds here, lmao And don’t’ forget super ego.

Character's Name: Knuckles the Echidna
Series: Sonic the Hedgehog [Sega; Post-Unleashed/06/ShTH. Damn did the history get confusing]

History: Long ago a race of warrior echidnas wanted to be a powerful, unbeatable army. To do this they tried to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds from a nearby shrine, much to the chief's daughter's objection. Unfortunately, they were dumb enough to trample on the small creatures, or chao, that took residence near said shrine. This angered the entity living inside the shrine and caused it to harness the power of the emeralds itself, turning into an unstoppable force of nature. It took out much of the tribe and went on to cause more destruction, until the chief's daughter sealed it away within the Master Emerald, and herself along with it.

The surviving echidnas brought it upon themselves to guard the emerald, and somehow Angel Island ascended to the sky, the Master Emerald and its shrine with it, far away from the rest of the planet below. The race would continue to guard said emerald and live in solitude for generations, until there was only one left. That one, of course, was Knuckles. He didn't really understand why he was guarding the emerald himself (the history was a bit diminished by that point), just that he had to. That the duty was put upon him, and that's all he had ever done.

It was during his teenage years that a strange man came to the Island, warning him of a blue hedgehog and his flying fox friend whom stole the chaos emeralds and were on their way to the island. Knuckles would be having none of that, so he made a preemptive attack on this Sonic, stealing the hedgehog's chaos emeralds and laughing like a dick about it the entire way. He was even there to stop Sonic from getting them back around every turn, pulling traps and just plain getting in his way. In the end, though, he discovered he was duped by this 'Eggman', who was really just after the Master Emerald.

Since then the echidna has been on good terms with Sonic, and is often seen fighting alongside him...or, sometimes, competing against them. They're more of friendly rivals, really. Even still he doesn't leave his post on Angel Island unless an emergency calls for it.

And boy, were there plenty of those since then. On one occasion the Master Emerald shattered, a liquid entity escaping from it and resulting in Angel Island crashing into the ocean. Knuckles' main concern was finding the pieces of the emerald that had somehow scattered all across the land. He of course faced off against the entity, or 'Chaos' when need be, and was of course once again tricked by Eggman into thinking Sonic stole some of the pieces of the Master Emerald. Another red herring. He's also seemingly sent to the past several times, or at least a reenactment of, where he discovers more about the history of the Chaos Emeralds and his own tribe. In the end he restored the Master Emerald and doing what he did best: sitting on the shrine all day and doing nothing else. Also, like everyone else he was there to give Sonic moral support when the hedgehog went up against Perfect Chaos.

It didn't end there, either. Eventually a cunning, voluptuous bat arrived on Angel Island with every intent to steal the master emerald. Again, Knuckles would not allow it. Eggman also tried to steal the emerald at the exact same time. Certain that he could restore the emerald as long as he gathered the pieces, Knuckles destroyed the emerald. Again. The duration of this adventure had Knuckles trying to locate the pieces before Rouge, the bat, did. He managed to get a majority of them, but his personal mission was set aside when he found out his old pal Sonic was trying to stop Eggman from blowing up the planet from space. His interest piqued when he found out Rouge was working with the mad doctor. With the echidnas help he and the others made it into space...only to hit a roaming piece of space rock and knocking the emerald pieces out of the shuttle. Knuckles took control of the ship and crash landed it into the space colony, then quickly fled to find the pieces that had fallen out. Not long after accomplishing this, he faced off against Rouge, ultimately saving her life when she slipped off a metal beam. After an awkward stare between the duo, Rouge handed over the pieces she had stowed away and they parted ways in a somewhat friendly fashion. When the arc was on the verge of colliding with the earth, Knuckles also helped put a stop to it, along with everyone else.

Like earlier stated, Knuckles has been away from the Master Emerald at some points. He once assisted Sonic and Tails in stopping Eggman (and, in truth, Metal Sonic) from destroying the world yet again. He also helped Shadow several times during an alien invasion. Lastly, he faced off against Storm the Albatross in an extreme gear race, to name a few times.

Though he did play a fairly decent sized role in the Sonic next gen game, the whole game ret-conned itself out of existence, so mentioning his role in it seems pointless. He did not appear in the most recent main game: Sonic Unleashed, however assume that he is from after the game's storyline all the same.

Character's Name: Sakura Haruno
Series: Naruto: Shipuuden
History: Sakura is a ninja from the Hidden Leaf Village, and part of Team 7. Her ninja career began at a young age, starting out at the academy, her main reason being that she wanted to attract the attention of her fellow classmate [and future teammate], Sasuke Uchiha. After graduating the academy at the young age of twelve, she was paired up with Naruto Uzumaki and her crush, Sasuke, along with Kakashi Hatake as their sensei to form Team 7. Back then, Sakura wasn't too fond of Naruto, who carries with him the nine tailed demon fox, Kyuubi. Naruto had an obvious crush on her, but unfortunately for him, Sakura took more to Sasuke who really paid no mind to her.

Eventually, Sasuke left the village and Team 7 to obtain more power by training with Orochimaru [legendary sannin] for his own goals [being to kill his older brother, Itachi], leaving Sakura literally unconscious on a bench when she attempted to stop him. Sakura's goals then change as well; she promises herself and her friends that she will become stronger, mentally and physically, so that she would no longer be a burden, and so she could protect her friends and help bring Sasuke home. With that wish, Naruto promises the same, and the two separate for three years; Naruto going with his mentor Jiraiya [who is a legendary sannin], Sakura going with the Hokage [leader of the village], Tsunade [also one of the three legendary sannin].

Three years however, is also the exact time that Orochimaru, the man Sasuke went to train with, needs to take over Sasuke's body, and so Naruto and Sakura hurry and train.

Three years pass, and Naruto returns to the Hidden Leave Village, very different than the little boy he used to be. He is all grown up and much stronger; and so is Sakura. Both at age sixteen, they, along with Sasuke's replacement, Sai, form Team 7 once again, this time with a man named Yamato as their sensei. They soon travel out in search for Sasuke, and they find him in Orochimaru's lair.

For the first time in three years, the original members of Team 7 met face to face, but Sasuke's attitude has changed. He claimed that he had forged the bonds he once made with them, and attempted to prove it by trying to kill Naruto. Sai intervened and stopped it, but in the end Sasuke, Orochimaru, and Orochimaru's other student//little helper elf Kabuto, get away leaving Sakura and Naruto broken hearted.

Many battles took place after that, mainly with a group of missing ninja whom go by the name of 'Akatsuki'. Sakura was the first to actually take out an Akatsuki member, Sasori of the Red Sand. He and his partner, Deidara, kidnapped a good friend and alliance of the Leaf, the Kazekage [leader of the Hidden Sand], Gaara. Gaara is like Naruto; he contains a demon, in which Akatsuki needs in order to obtain their 'goal'. They manage to kill Gaara and extract the demon, Deidara running off with Gaara's corpse and leading Kakashi and Naruto away, while Sakura and Sasori's grandmother, Chiyo, were left to deal with his partner.

It was a long battle, but in the end Sakura and Chiyo came out the victors; Sakura was wounded badly and so was Chiyo but they managed to kill Sasori together. They met up with Naruto and another team, going off together to pursue Deidara, who at this point had both arms blown off thanks to earlier battles; and barely managed to escape when Deidara 'blew himself up'. Chiyo sacrifices herself, and brings Gaara back to life. Huzzah.

In the most recent chapters, Naruto has managed to take down the 'leader' of the Akatsuki, Pein, and comes home to see the Hidden Leaf destroyed because of the earlier battle with him. Sakura for once was happy to see him, even though she hits him anyways [she has a thing for beating the hell out of him when he does stupid stuff] for being reckless. Tsunade is in a coma, and a new Hokage has been elected -- one of the village elders, Danzo. Danzo is not like Tsunade, however, and has sent orders out to kill Sasuke for being a missing nin, not to mention Sasuke has just recently joined Akatsuki after he obtained one of his goals, killing his brother. But after an odd chain of events, Sasuke went around full circle, and now has plans on destroying the Leaf and everyone in it. [Also to be noted; Sasuke has gone and created a new team of his own, consisting of four people; Juugo, Suigetsu, Karin, and himself, and they go by Hebi -- or is that Taka now? I don't know what they're calling themselves now, Sasuke keeps changing it!]

Now, Sakura and Naruto must find a way to protect Sasuke no matter what, and find a way to change Danzo's mind, along with the other Kage's [leaders of their respective villages] who are traveling to discuss matters and the suchness.

Personality: Sakura is pretty cheerful, and all around good natured -- unless you seriously piss her off. Which is pretty easy to do, especially if you're Naruto. . . or a pervert. Most insults will set her off, and fists will fly. She is also insanely loyal to her village and friends, and will do almost anything to protect them, including dying for them [YEAH SHE GOT IMPALED WITH A POISONED BLADE DURING THE SASORI FIGHT, FOR CHIYO. D:<] if neccessary. She is also a medic ninja; meaning she can use her chakra to heal most wounds, inside and outside, and can also extract poisons, something that only Tsunade herself can do. She is a fierce opponent in a fight; with a single punch she can bring down buildings, cause earthquakes, etc, etc; so one can only imagine if that fist were to hit their face. OUCHIES.

She's grown a lot closer to Naruto because of all he's done for her, and he HAS grown up a bit, and even to her newest teammate, Sai, despite the rather rough start they had [Sai was emotionless; so he screwed up a LOT when trying to get to know Naruto and Sakura, including calling Sakura 'ugly' and 'hag' for a while]. She's still head over heels in love with Sasuke, but this time around she's willing to beat the crap out of him if it means bringing him home again; she also has a desire to show him just how much stronger she's gotten. [Some of the last things he said to her before he bailed on them was how pathetic and weak she was].

Sakura also has a little voice in her head called Inner Sakura; who during part one of the series came out mainly to show her emotions, but so far has only been seen once in Shippuden; but she's still there, lurking in the back of Sakura's mind and being lewd, we can guarantee that.

Character's Name: Neku Sakuraba
Series: The World Ends With You – one week after Hachiko; post-game.

History: As said by himself, Neku was born and raised in the district of Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan. At fifteen years old, he's a fairly typical teenager, bored by school, loves his music, and... loves art and graffiti, oddly enough. When he was younger, canon implies he lost his best and only friend in a traffic accident when he asked to meet up one afternoon, and between that time and the course of the game, he cut himself off from people because of it.

But due to events beyond his control, he was murdered and dragged into the Reaper's Game – a fight for survival spanning seven days, in which an individual is expected to work with a partner, solve riddles, and ultimately survive, else they cease to exist forever. The first-place prize? Being brought back to life. The stipulation for entering? You give up your most cherished thing as a deposit.

As Neku was dragged through three full weeks of this – each week gaining a partner, sacrificing an entry fee, and getting screwed over by the rules so he has to play again – he met countless people that opened his eyes to the world, and bit by bit, he changed and realized what he'd been missing out of life: other people.

And through a twist of fate, this change was what saved not only himself, but also his new-found friends and Shibuya as a whole. Now alive and well, with friends to boot, things are definitely looking up for him.

Personality: Neku is a sharp, dry, sarcastic, and entirely self-reliant. He couldn't care less what those around him think, what they want out of life, or what's important to them. As long as he's left alone to his music and his thoughts, he's content to let the world pass by without a second thought.

...Or at least, that's what he wanted everyone to think. Now he's not so sure.

However, the first part is true: Neku is remarkably intelligent, both in book smarts and logic, and on top of that his intuition is generally spot-on. Quite often his gut feeling about a situation is absolutely true, and this gives him the potential to be good with people - saying the right thing when they're feeling down, picking up on implications, etc. Of course, he's still learning what to do with this talent, and often finds himself awkwardly trying to comfort or relate to someone when he doesn't quite know how.

He has a tendency to be impatient with people, though his frustration is rarely meant personally (with the exception of people like Joshua or Sho), and being led on or being teased for not knowing something is often the quickest way to piss him off. If someone genuinely (or at least convincingly) tries to connect with him in a friendly way, he makes an active effort to respond in kind, even if it doesn't always come out smoothly... or at all. Neku is an abuser of ellipses, and often thinks his thoughts more than speaks them, so while he'll be very talkative while explaining something, the moment the conversation turns to dialogue one will find themselves being met with silence and “uhhuh”s often.

So, in summary and to quote canon, Neku is trying his best to expand his world and understand people, and judging from the progress he made only a month during the game, it's clear that he is adaptable and willing to change, which will probably remain his greatest motivation for the rest of his life.

Powers and Abilities: None.
Memory Lost: Loss of Knowledge ~ Losing his best friend, who was killed in a car accident on the way to meet him when he was younger.
Reason: This loss was the experience that forced Neku to be so withdrawn and closed-off in the first place – the blame he directed at himself for the event alongside the pain he felt was the the biggest dictator of his worldview for much of his teenage life, thus also being the root of the change that occurs in him over the course of the game's events.

[Since Neku's thoughts are so intrinsic to his voice in canon, I'll be including them in strikes, if that's alright!]

First Person Sample: ...Where the hell--? A ghost town? But... that car's engine is still running. Joshua, if this is one of your jokes, I swear I'll-- No. This isn't Shibuya. He can't do something like this... can he? I don't even see any Reapers. Or Noise. And I don't remember dying--

Then again, that just makes this a major case of deja vu. ...Better start looking around. There's gotta be someone somewhere.

Third Person Sample: Neku waved as Beat and Rhyme disappeared past the crowds of Dogenzaka, the same grin on his face that he'd been wearing all afternoon. Shiki'd already retreated in the other direction just a few minutes earlier, after promising that they'd all meet up again next week same time, same place – after a roundrobin exchange of screennames and cellphone numbers on top of that. That struck Neku as both weird and funny at the same time – he never really had any names listed under “contacts” before. Visual evidence that he was connecting to the outside world, finally, he guessed. “It's a good feeling.”

And damn, he felt worn out, but it wasn't like what he was used to. Happy and full – Mr. Doi remembered him helping out with his business and gave them all a little extra on the side (After asking where the Neku's talkative and adventurous friend was, but Neku had only shrugged. It wasn't his fault that Joshua never showed up) – and now he was too stuffed to move. He had no idea how Beat was able to pack in a double portion with as much gusto as he had, but Neku just guessed his initial assumption had been correct: the guy was a freakin' rhino.

The weirdest thing about the day was that it felt so natural, other than the faces his parents gave him when he left the apartment saying he was meeting some friends and that they shouldn't wait up on him for dinner. They'd get used to it, probably even faster than he would. He supposed he was a little nervous – screwing up now might throw him back to square one, and he was far from being a pro at dealing with people – but...

But at least he knew he wasn't alone, not between the four of them. It was awesome to have friends.

Character's Name: Kiryuu Yoshiya "Joshua".
Series: The World Ends With You, post-game.

History: Known as Shibuya's Composer, Kiryuu Yoshiya, or as he likes to be called "Joshua" followed one Sakuraba Neku around the elaborate world he created. However, he plays an important role in Neku's life as the one who entered him in the game known as the "Reaper's Game" where the players have seven days to complete the game or face erasure. During Neku's second week, he entered himself into his own game illegally and was called an "Illegal Player", although no one knew this and so, he followed Neku around with making it as if he had no knowledge of how things worked in the Reaper's Game itself, though he knew the basics.

When he was scanned with Neku's Player Pin, there were flashbacks of Neku's death. They became more and more daunting, especially at the last scan when it was revealed that in an old shootout, Joshua wasn't aiming for Minamimoto Sho, but he was aiming for Neku because he saw something in him that not a lot of people saw. Yet, being as clever and crafty as he's known for, Joshua played it off and followed Neku around with all the aim to make it as if he could change Neku's perception of how things were in the world. This cleverness and craftiness eventually led Neku to find out that yes, Joshua was the one who killed him and entered him in the Reaper's Game. Yet, during this time, Joshua is the one who stressed the importance of trusting your partner. Neku and Joshua, even with this revelation, so to speak, they fought that week's Game Master, or as they called him, the Grim Heaper, who was ironically Minamimoto Sho. After a powerful i flare attack, Joshua pushed Neku out of the way and sacrificed himself, but he left Neku with these chilling words: "But Neku, I thought you couldn't afford to lose."

One would think that he was gone for good after that, right? Wrong! He dodged the attack just in time and transported himself into a parallel Shibuya where Tin Pin Slammer was the game. He remained there before going back to his own Shibuya to see Neku once more. They played a game similar to Russian Roulette with the rules being whoever shoots first after a ten second countdown won the title of "Composer" and does whatever they wanted to Shibuya. Neku couldn't do it to shoot Joshua, which ended him getting killed by Joshua yet again.

Though, from this alone, he decided not to eliminate Shibuya because Neku had made him see his flaws with his version of Shibuya. So, this led him to like Shibuya as it was because he changed.

Personality: Yoshiya, or really, Joshua, is a very intelligent and wise person for his apparent age. He has an innate ability to figure out problems in a snap and likes to see just how things work. Of course, that's why he's Shibuya's Composer due to how he used humans in an experiment to see how hard they'd fight for their lives. See, humanity deeply interests him with all of the different characteristics they possess, yet also it upset him with how close-minded people were and how unwilling they were to change. That was his reasoning behind the Reaper's Game - to test just how far people would go to realize what they did wrong in their life and change it around, despite being dead and beyond hope.

Yet, he is not infallible. He's extremely arrogant, cocky, and can come off as absolutely rude to someone he just met with his egocentric and forthcoming personality. He also takes amusement in teasing those that catch his eye (i.e. Neku.) Conversely, Joshua can also be very apathetic, lazy and laid back about certain things and will put them off to do whatever he wants instead.

Kiryuu Joshua App 2/3, maybe?
[info]silent_trickery
2009-07-25 06:03 am UTC (link)
This is not to say that he's just one lazy bastard. He DOES have compassion laying in him as well as sincerity. Due to the events of the Game, he feels guilty as well as regretful about putting people through such difficult times, and through Neku, his proxy, he's learned a valuable life lesson that not everyone is as bad as they seem to be and that you can't judge a book by its cover. To this day, he still thanks Neku for teaching him to expand his horizons.

Powers and Abilities: To start off, Joshua can teleport between places, fly, use telekinesis, can Jesus Beam his enemies, see things that aren't there (ghosts, spirits, the like), and can withstand a fair amount of damage.

As for the ones that need mun permission, he can use telepathy and read minds, tweak memories and also steal and rearrange them, and imprint (which means that he can suggest something on someone's mind. He's not necessarily controlling them, but influencing them upon a decision that's devoid from conversation.) He also can control people themselves (i.e. characters of other muns) - for example, psychic immobility. Finally, he has slight precognition. With this, he's not able to foresee events, but if, let's say, someone was to come at him with a knife, he'll know when to dodge a slight time before they start moving.

What's the Composer? Well, the Composer defines the entire game. He can create the rules for the Reapers' Game, can promote/demote the Reapers, have incredible strength in battle, communicate with the Producer (Sanae Hanekoma), control the Reapers, assign the Game Master for each week the Game goes on and is able to send the winning Players back to the Realground, where they can go on with their lives.

Also, he has a razor-sharp mind and is quick to figure things out, and with being very wise, he can be a massive asset in a crisis if he decides to play along and assist. However, knowing him, getting him to do this will be headache inducing since he's much more interested in dissecting the minds' of the inhabitants in this city and see just what makes them tick.

Character's Name: Daisukenojo "Beat" Bito
Series: The World Ends With You (Week Three, Day Six)

History: Beat was a boy that got into a lot of quarrels with his parents. After one such quarrel he ran away from home, and his little sister Rhyme followed him. Upon finding him she was about to become a street pizza. Beat tried to save her but ended up getting hit himself. Both of them died and became partners in the Reapers' Game. Rhyme had forgotten all about Beat, and Beat, feeling responsible for her death vowed to look out for her through the duration of the game. They tried to team up with Shiki and Neku at one point, but Neku's off putting nature pissed Beat off. They all ended up being friends and helping one another out, though; Rhyme and Beat even finished off a noise at the last minute, helping Neku and Shiki and completing the daily mission.

On the fourth day of the first week, Rhyme got eaten erased by a shark noise while trying to rescue Beat, thus paralleling (with roles reversed) the way they had died. Without a partner and feeling heavy remorse, Beat wasn't far from erasure himself. Luckily Mr. Hanekoma made a pin using Rhyme's data, and had Beat partner up with it to stay in the game. Unable to use the pin in battle, he joined up with the Reapers to get their help. As a reaper, he was assigned to take out Joshua and Neku during week two, a mission he failed to accomplish for various reasons.

In the third week, with Neku lacking a partner due to his newest entry fee, Beat formed a pact with him for that week since it was a pretty unfair move to pull on the Reapers' behalf. This caused him to lose his status as a Reaper, and since a Reaper's lifespan depends on how many points you receive erasing players in the game (Beat received zero), he was going to die in six days. His entry fee for that week was Rhyme's Pin. He and Neku spend the duration of this time trying to find the current game master (Mitsuki "Iron Maiden" Konishi) to get the pin back, and trying to find a way into the Shibuya River to take down the Composer. If Beat became Composer he could bring Rhyme and all his friends back to life, thus why he was so determined to do this.

He confesses to Neku that he and his sister died in a car accident, that he blamed himself, that Rhyme didn't remember him at all, and that he himself has no dreams, but lied and told Rhyme he wanted to be the greatest skater in the world when he discovered she had lost her memories. He and Neku bonded and became better friends with each revelation.

I am taking him from the beginning of day six of week three, so it's pretty close to the end of the game. Therefore the app ends here.

Personality: Daisukenojo puts on a tough front, but he's actually a softie at heart, something he doesn't want others to know. He's even embarrassed by his first name, thus the nickname 'Beat'. He isn't fond of the idea of anything being unfair, and does best to rectify a wrongdoing, even if it's beyond his control. If you befriend him, he'd do anything for you.

Beat isn't the brightest crayon in the box, and he knows it too. He doesn't try to act smart, and in fact is known to mispronounce words when he doesn't know how to say them (this happens with bigger words quite a bit). Why, he often has a hard time telling when he's being insulted. He's just being himself, and that's good enough. This is in contrast to his sister Rhyme, who is very smart for her age and has a lot of potential. Beat is proud of her for that, which is one reason he felt so horrible about what she was put through because of him.

Lastly, Beat can be impulsive and reckless, jumping to conclusions before getting all the facts and rushing off without thinking. This leads to a lot of trouble if someone isn't around to set him straight; he knows this, too. He's also pretty loud, which can get on some people's nerves.

Powers and Abilities: Beat has the amazing ability to beat the shit out of monsters with his skateboard.

That's it.

Memory Lost: RHYYYYYYYYYMUUUUUUUUUUUUU His sister, Rhyme.
Reason: Rhyme is Beat's whole reason for playing the game, becoming a Reaper, and trying to gain Composer status. She's his precious little sister and at the heart of everything he does throughout the duration of the game. Without Rhyme, he would have no reason to even try to survive the game.

First Person Sample: Huh. Ain't never been to this part of Shibuya before. Thought I've been everywhere. Th' hell? That ain't a billboard I know either. What brand is that?

...

Wait, this ain't Shibuya! Yo, Phones! We got a problem. I dunno how but Iron Face--

...Phones?

Oh hell naw! You better not've ditched me. Not you man! We supposed to be partners!

Third Person Sample: This was lame. Beat was in unfamiliar territory, deprived of pins and partnerless on top of that. How the hell was he supposed to survive?!

There was no way Koni-- Kino-- Kana--there was no way Iron Face could have done this, even in her position of power. Beat knew that much at least.

Too bad he didn't know much else.

Well that didn't matter. What did matter was finding said Iron Face and taking her down so that...so that...

Okay, so he couldn't remember why, but he was sure Neku would probably know the answer to that. Beating her wasn't the main purpose anyway; he needed to find and take out the Composer. Then when he took that guy's place he was gonna...gonna...man, he was gonna do something.

First thing was first though. He'd have to find Neku.

Character's Name: Freakazoid
Series: Freakazoid

History: The origin of Freakazoid starts when his alter ego, Dexter Douglass received a pinnacle chip from his family on Christmas. The pinnacle chip was to be installed in his computer to allow better access to the internet. Little did Dexter know, the particular chip he had was flawed, and despite Roddy MacStew's attempts to get the chip withdrawn, the head of the corporation-- Gutierrez-- refused. After Dexter's cat, Mr. Chubbykins runs over his keyboard after he had installed the chip, Dexter pressed the delete button and was sucked into the net-- gaining powers that allowed him to do just about anything. He then became: Freakazoid.
Freakazoid has gone through many numerous misadventures, combating against foes and super villains with multiple sidekicks. His best friend, Sargent Mike Cosgrove, often meets up with him in the midst of a situation and they tend to run off to random events together, which consist of tourist traps and hobbies. His girlfriend, Steff, stands by him, and seems to find his randomness appealing, but can in turn be turned off by it. Usually, all he has to do is make her smile or laugh, and she's fine.
His relationship with Dexter is often one of an identity crisis. Though Dexter is the brainy, logical individual, Freakazoid is virtually his opposite. He's cool, strong, forward, and outgoing.
Personality: Freakazoid is random, and pretty much interested in about everything (minus poo gas). His mind seems to move in the speed of wireless highspeed internet, and his attention span is incredibly short-- much like a 5 year old boy, hyped up in sugar, with ADD. He's ultimately a do-gooder, and will do everything he can to ensure what is right in the world. He likes going on random outings he may have heard through the internet or through the grapevine, and will jump at every opportunity to do something exciting. He's a lover of women and does most of what he does with the sole motivation to impress them. His approach to fighting typically involves confusing the enemy, and random half-baked plans, which somehow seem to align so he turns out the victor in the end. He's incredibly animated and wears his emotion on his sleeve. If he is happy, he will gush. If he is sad, he will bawl. If he is depressed, he will drown his sorrows in papaya juice. He is always on a lookout for a sidekick, because he loves being around people and having friends and companionship.
Powers and Abilities: Freakazoid has superhuman strength, super speed, super randomness and just recently learned how to move things with his mind. This last ability, however, is often times forgotten. He doesnt know how to fly, but will imitate flight with “woosh” sounds.
Memory Lost: Dexter Douglas, and the ability to “freak-in”.
Reason: Dexter is who he is, and is his secret identity. Without Dexter, Freakazoid will be convinced that he's the only one that exists, though he wont understand how he knows Roddy and Steff from Dexter's point of view. He wont remember his family at all. Needless to say, any form of sanity he might have (though little) may be gone. Dexter evens him out, so at times, he may be imbalanced. He also may not feel completely tied down to Steff, since Dexter's initial infatuation with her grounds Freakazoid to be a “one-woman-man”. (Sorry, Freakazoid doesnt have a heck of a whole lot to lose, since he doesnt really take advantage of his powers)

First Person Sample: Wooooow where's all the people? I spent the first couple of hours getting over here having a conversation with my echo in a dark quiet alley. After a bit, I ran around, flying in the streets to see if I could find someone to talk to. I found a play ground, and I did that one thing on the swingset I always wanted to do. You know, when you lay flat on your stomach on the set and you push on the sand and your arms and legs spread out? I pushed too hard and I flew over the top of the set and hit the building behind me. I left a really cool indent though!

Still though, reaaaally quiet. Its kinda creepy. And not the cool kind of creepy when you see someone turn their eyelids inside out. The bad creepy, where I kinda wanna huddle up somewhere and rock in fetal position till I hear a friendly voice.

I wonder what Roddy would say about this place.

Third Person Sample: Super teen extraordinare, Freakazoid was running around the streets in his bright red spandex, “wooshing” all the way-- his arms extended in front of him as if flying. His eyes scanned the world around him. “wooooooooossshhhhh- Nothing...” He noted to himself, running faster, looking over his other shoulder. “shhhhhhhhhhzzrrrshhhhhhh- Nothing?” He kept running, fast enough now that his legs turned into pure energy and he moved like a lightning bolt in the street. “zrrrooooooshhh- Nothing???”

He stopped abruptly into a quick stop, his white booted feet skidding on the pavement. “Hellooooooo, looo, looo, looo!” Freakazoid, for some reason, found it necessary to make his own echo... even though the space seemed empty enough to have created a natural echo. He waited a moment for a response. When there was no response he sighed, kicking the ground. What was he supposed to do now? No one to save? No one to go to festivals with?

His thoughts were interrupted by a swingset a ways from his line of sight. The blue superhero's eyes sparkled, and he wooshed his way over with complete enthusiasm, as if he wasnt bothered at all.

Character's Name: Michael J. Caboose
Series: Red vs. Blue (Post-Reconstruction, pre-Recreation)

History:
Before joining the army, Michael J. Caboose was raised in a moon colony with his family consisting of his parents, and 17 sisters. When he got older, he enlisted in the army, thinking that he was enrolling in college. How he mistook the two, who the hell knows.

Soon after, he was sent to Blood Gulch as the new rookie for the Blue Team. He’s dropped off with the team’s new tank, who Caboose later develops feelings for. Almost immediately, he grates on the nerves of his teammates, Church and Tucker. He insults Church’s girlfriend by accidentally implying that she’s a slut and gets banished to the inside of the base to watch the flag, and wait for the “general” to come by and inspect the flag. About that time, the Red Army also got a new recruit, Donut, who ends up at Blue Base, thinking it’s the store. He makes his way inside, and Caboose assumes he’s the general, come to look at the flag. Donut, not wanting to leave empty-handed, takes the flag with Caboose’s permission and takes off. After Church’s failed attempt at sniping Donut, he and Tucker tell Caboose to stay put, and leave in attempt to take him out to get the flag back.

Eventually, the Reds end up going after the Blues for shooting at Donut. Church and Tucker hide up in the cliffs, getting shot at by the Reds and their Warthog. At this time, Caboose decides to take Sheila and try and help his teammates. He instantly forms a rather close (and slightly disturbing) bond with the tank as she teaches him the basics of operating her. With Sheila, he manages to scare off the Reds, but accidentally blows up Church afterwards. Soon after killing Church, an air strike blows up Sheila, and Caboose is upset at the loss of ‘the lady in the tank’, claiming that she was his friend.

After Church dies, and Sheila is blown up, the Blue team gets a freelancer to help them out. It turns out that this freelancer is actually Church’s ex girlfriend named Allison, AKA Tex, and she has a very aggressive AI living in her helmet. Tex gets their flag back, but is captured. Church returns as a ghost and goes off to free Tex. After a series of unfortunate, but hilarious events, Tex is blown up by Donut, and to escape certain death, the AI abandons Tex, jumping from suit to suit via radio communication. At that exact moment, Caboose was trying to radio Church and the AI makes itself comfortable in Caboose’s head. At this point, Caboose refers to himself as “Private O’Malley.”

Caboose, now having the company of O’Malley, becomes very aggressive, especially towards Tucker. Not too soon after that, a pacifist medic named DuFresne shows up. They (more like Church) decide to rename him Doc because it’s easier to say. He offers to help out, but the Blues get annoyed with him and send him to the Red Base. The Reds get annoyed with him as well, and he goes off to live in the cavern. Around this time, Sheila meets Lopez, and they become rather enamored with each other, which makes Caboose jealous. After that, Tex comes back as a ghost too, and she and Church possess Caboose and enter his mind to kill O’Malley. Inside, they meet Caboose’s mental image versions of everyone in the canyon. The way he perceives everyone is just different enough to piss off Church. O’Malley shoot’s Caboose’s mind!Church, making Caboose forget who Church is. Church and Tex corner O’Malley and shoot him down, but at that point, Doc had turned on his radio to get in touch with Command, and O’Malley was transferred to him.

history cont.

O’Malley, after taking Lopez, runs through the teleporter to an unknown location. Everyone, save for Tucker (who’d been almost killed by O’Malley), Donut, Sheila, and later Tex, goes after O’Malley and Lopez through the teleporter. Caboose ends up in Battle Creek with Sarge, who actually admits to missing Grif while he’s in Caboose’s company. His true stupidity shines bright here, as we find out that Caboose can’t spell his own name, thinks that a dead blue guy is him, and various other stupid things. At one point, however, Caboose channels his ‘anger’ claiming that O’Malley taught him how to be mean. He quickly and easily takes out all the zealots and then he and Sarge go back through the teleporter and meet up with everyone else.

Everyone, now being joined by Tucker and Donut (Tex went through without them), end up on Sidewinder, where they catch up with O’Malley once again. But it’s too late and because of a bomb in Church’s body, everyone except Church is sent into the future. Church on the other hand, is sent to the past where he learns of this being called “The Great Destroyer” which is said to be the stupidest life form in the universe. Church automatically assumes that this is referring to Caboose. Later, however, after meeting the alien, they decide that The Great Destroyer is probably not Caboose.

Caboose and Tucker are sent back to Blood Gulch, and they learn that Tucker somehow got impregnated by the alien, and he gives birth to an alien baby. Caboose is hurt “donating” blood to it, and offers Church his orange juice if he dies.

At the end of the original series, Caboose is chosen to talk to Sheila to distract her while Tex shuts her down. He agrees, though not at first. Tex succeeds in shutting her down, but does so right as she is about to tell Caboose where O’Malley is. He tells everyone that Sheila has this information and they agree to upload Sheila’s AI into the ship that had crashed into Blood Gulch. Caboose stays inside the ship and makes sure that the transfer goes as it should. With Sheila inside the ship’s computer, she tells Caboose that O’Malley is the leader of the Blues, and he radios Tex with this information. She and turns on Church, since, as far as she knows, he is the leader. Tucker follows her lead, but Church manages to convince them that he isn’t O’Malley, and that Captain Flowers (who’s supposed to be dead) is.

After a strange series of looped events, Tucker kills Wyoming, and asks Caboose to distract the tank, while he transfers Gary the Computer into the ship with Sheila, who traps him in a firewall. Tex finds out Wyoming’s and O’Malley’s plan to run the universe, and boards the ship with Wyoming’s helmet, Andy, Tucker’s baby, and Lopez.

Caboose shows up again in Reconstruction, when Washington gets assigned on a mission to find people that had a direct connection with the Omega AI. He finds Caboose in the brig at Outpost 28-A, and takes him from said outpost. His superior, Lieutenant Miller is more than happy to be rid of Caboose, telling him to never come back.

Their next stop is an abandoned base where they find Church, who is not at all pleased to see Caboose. Caboose, of course, assumes that Church missed him and is happy to be reunited with his best friend. He and Wash try to talk Church into joining up with them, but Church only agrees when he finds out that Tex’s ship has been located.

After a brief encounter with Agent South, the three acquire her AI named Delta. Soon after, they run into the Reds, and the Meta, and Caboose is injured. Wash tries to revive him with a healing unit, which only half works. Caboose’s vitals are stable, but he’s stuck in a comatose state.

Character's Name: Coraline Jones
Series: Coraline (film)

History: Everything starts with our dear little Coraline moving into the Pink Palace apartments; a 150 year old home that’s been divided up into four flats to be rented out. She starts out exploring the grounds, in particular, looking for the boarded up well out beyond the woods. When she does find it, she also meets the Landlady’s grandson, Wybie Lovat and his ‘feral’ cat. It begins to rain, and Coraline is forced indoors. Her father sends her through the house with a pen and paper to explore. She comes across a small door behind the wallpaper in the parlor, and when it’s opened it just leads to a wall of bricks.

That night Coraline is woken by a mouse in her room. She chases it down the stairs and into the parlor, where the small door is open ever so slightly. When she opens it completely the bricks are gone, and instead there’s a tunnel leading to an exact replica of her flat, only better. There’s a woman in the kitchen cooking with black button eyes, claiming to be her Other Mother. Her Other Father is in his study, and instead of typing away at an ancient computer, he’s at the piano making up songs about his darling daughter. She has a delicious roast chicken dinner with her Other family, and goes to bed in her Other room (which is, of course, much more interesting than her original one). She wakes up back in the real world by morning, and the door is sealed away with bricks again.

Coraline visits the Other World multiple times over the next few days, becoming more and more drawn there and finding herself bored and distanced from reality. On these trips she meets a number of people. The Other Neighbors exist solely to entertain Coraline and sometimes the Other Wybie, who has been rendered mute by the Other Mother under the impression Coraline would like him better that way. The Cat is revealed able to talk in the other realm and warns her of impending danger. Coraline ignores him, but the warnings are found valid when her Other parents offer to let her stay in the Other World forever, but only if she lets them buttons sewn into her eyes. Horrified, Coraline excuses herself early, barricades herself in her Other room, and desperately goes to sleep.

This time is different. Coraline wakes up still in the Other World, but everything seems somewhat off, like it's more twisted and sinister. She goes to see the Other Father, who seems to have twisted along with everything else. She tries to get answers from him, but he's constantly scolded by the mechanical hands of the piano for talking when Mother isn't there. She leaves, attempting to escape through the surrounding forest, but all she finds is The Cat and an empty white void before returning to the house again. The Cat explains how the Other Mother created only what she thought would impress Coraline to lure her in. She decides that the only way out is through the little door, and heads for the Other parlor.

History cont.
Coraline is confronted by the Other Mother in the now insect-themed room. The two exchange words, and when Coraline says that the Other mother isn't her real mother, she grows angry and changes, revealing her true nature. She drags Coraline through the house and imprisons her behind the mirror in the hall. She meets three ghost children behind the mirror; others who were lured in by the Other Mother (or 'The Beldam', if you prefer) and let her sew buttons into their eyes. They inform Coraline of the Other Mother's real intentions and ask her to retrieve their eyes, so that they may pass on to the afterlife peacefully. Before giving them an answer, Coraline is pulled from the mirror by the Other Wybie, whose mouth was sewn up into a smile by the Other Mother. He leads her to the small door in the parlor and helps her escape, staying behind to face the angry Beldam.

Upon arriving home, it's become obvious that her parents are gone, and she finds them behind the real mirror in the hall. She knows the only person who could've taken them was the Other Mother, and is forced to venture back into the twisted realm once again. She takes The Cat’s advice and uses the Beldam’s love of games to get them back. Coraline must find the three ghost children’s eyes, as well as her parents, and if she loses she will let the Other Mother love her forever and sew buttons into her eyes. She finds that the stone with a hole in it, when looked through, reveals the world as the fake, grey thing that it is and indicates a ghost child’s eye as a glowing point of light. She discovers the first eye hidden in the garden, given to her by the Other Father when the Beldam forced him to attack Coraline. The second was wrapped up in the Spink-Forcible cocoon in the dilapidated theatre, and the third with the circus mice upstairs. With the power of the eyes gone, the outside world begins to collapse. She and the cat make a mad dash for the interior of the house. Now all that’s left to find are her parents.

In the Parlor, the Other Mother has now become a skeletal, spider-like creature. The ghost children tell Coraline that even if she does win, The Beldam will never let her go. Coraline has mere minutes to think of a plan, so she tells the Other Mother that her parents are behind the small door. Once it’s unlocked, Coraline throws the cat at the Other Mother, who claws out her button eyes while Coraline grabs the Detroit Zoo snowglobe off the mantle that contains her parents. Seething with rage and pushed to her limit, the Other Mother transforms the floor into a deep web and frantically searches for Coraline, who is climbing up the side. Her bag catches on the web, and the vibrations from pulling it free tell the Beldam where she is. Coraline barely makes it in the door before the Other Mother grabs her, and even still her hand is cut off and follows her through to the other side.

Finally home with her parents where she belongs, Coraline dreams of the three ghost children, who are now golden angels. They warn her that the danger isn’t over yet, and that she must get rid of the key so that no one will find it ever again. She wakes up from the dream, alarmed, and immediately heads out to the old well to get rid of the key. She is followed by the Other Mother’s hand, who grabs the key as soon as it’s in sight and drags Coraline along with it. Wybie shows up just in time to deal with the hand, and they both drop the key and the crushed hand into the well together. By the next morning, all is well with Coraline and all her neighbors attending the Garden party her parents threw to celebrate the success of their garden catalog.

Character's Name: Raimu "Rhyme" Bito
Series: The World Ends with You

History: Raimu Bito, also known as Rhyme, when she was alive, lived with her family, which consisted of her mother, father, and older brother, Daisukenojo, otherwise known as Beat. She was an intelligent girl for her age, and had the potential to do something great with her life; her dreams and ambitions were important to her, and she had every reason in the world to follow them.

However, her older brother was also important to her. She cared about her older brother, and wanted to help him out as much as possible. So when Beat ran from their home one day after an argument with their parents, Rhyme followed. It was a fateful day that led them into playing the Reaper's Game; while following, Rhyme was in the path of a car. Beat saw this, and tried to push his little sister out of the way, but that attempt failed. Both siblings died that day.

They came to the UG, an Underground Shibuya, where they entered the Reaper's Game for another chance at life. The siblings became partners to each other, and had to help each other through the span of a week, which was how long the game lasted. Rhyme, however, retained no memory of who her elder brother was, only that she had a brother, and worried for him. It was assumed that Rhyme's memories of her brother was her entrance fee. She stuck with Beat, though, feeling that they needed to help each other.

Through the first three days of that week, Beat and Rhyme met up with two other players, Neku and Shiki. Rhyme wanted to work together, and while Beat and Shiki were all for that idea, Neku, being a loner, was still disliking the idea of working with even his own partner. Beat and Neku's attitudes clashed a bit, making it a bit difficult for them to get along, and after a bit, the two teams went their separate ways, only to meet up again a few times after and help each other even more.

And then, on the fourth day, something terrible happened.

It was a relatively calm day, and a rather simple mission to complete. As a result of the mission's simplicity, a majority of the players of the game had their guards down; Beat and Rhyme were no exception. Rhyme saw that Beat was about to be attacked by noise, and, reversing their situation from when they were still alive, pushed Beat out of the way of an oncoming shark noise; in doing so, however, she became erased, while saving Beat's 'life,' so to speak. It was revealed somewhere in this time that Rhyme's entry fee was her dreams and ambitions, whereas the memories and love of her brother, which was originally thought to be her entry fee, was actually Beat's entry fee. Since Beat wouldn't have been able to stay in the game now that his partner was erased, on the quick thinking of Mr. Hanekoma, a strange 'ally' of sorts, Rhyme's soul was transformed into a pin, and given to Beat so that he may partner up with it again and stay in the game.

That pin was able to summon Rhyme as a squirrel noise, by the way. :)

For the remainder of the game, Rhyme's soul was bound to that pin, and she assisted Beat as a squirrel noise. A very cute one, too. x3

After the entirety of the game, everyone was brought back to life, Rhyme included. So yay, she's aliiiiiive~

And also being taken from post-game. So yaaaay, she's aliiiiiive! [shot forever]

Raimu "Rhyme" Bito - 1/3

Personality: The younger of the Bito siblings, and also the more calm and mature of the two, Rhyme is a sweet, understanding, optimistic young girl who, in the game, seemingly has no dreams of her own; which discourages her a little bit. While she claims in-game that she has no real dreams, she really does want to help Beat out as much as she can. And she does.

However, as Rhyme isn't really touched upon on a personal level very often in the game due to how short of a personal appearance she made, there are only a few things really known about her. One was the aforementioned kindness of heart, sincere love, and maturity she has for her age. Another is that Rhyme's also extremely intelligent for her age. The third is that, even despite not REMEMBERING that Beat is her brother, her desire is to help him, and to do whatever she can to make sure he is successful. Beat is the most important person in the world to her, no matter what memories, or lack thereof, she has of him.

After returning to life post-game, Rhyme remembers who her brother is, and regained the love for him that she had before (or, I suppose one could say that she ALWAYS had, as she'd displayed in the game). She didn't regain any of the dreams or ambitions that were taken from her via her entry fee, but she now has the opportunity to create new dreams for herself.

Powers and Abilities: Well .. if she has any significant powers in-game, we don't really know what it is. For this roleplay, it probably should be assumed that she's a normal human, since she IS being taken from post-game.

Maybe I should put here that she has a knack for organization and restate that she's intelligent for her age? Other than that, really, there's nothing.

Memory Lost: Memories of the Reaper's Game
Reason: At the risk of sounding repetitive, didn't want her losing her memories of her brother. :P After all she went through during the Reaper's Game, Rhyme considers it a treasured memory, now that she's alive again. It's a constant reminder that she only has a limited chance at life (ordinarily, only one chance, but her case was obviously special and she was given a second chance), and it's a memory of how she's met some of her closest friends. She will remember the friends she's made as a RESULT of the Reaper's game, but she will not remember the game, or the events that occured during her time in the game.

Character's Name:Maka Albarn
Series:Soul Eater Manga-verse, post chapter 63

History:Maka Albarn is the daughter of Spirit and Kami Albarn and inherited her meister capabilities presumably from her mother Kami, who was also a meister. Due to her father’s incessant cheating on her mother, the two eventually divorced, though Spirit still claims to “love Maka and Mama the most.”
Family life aside, Maka is a student at Shibusen Academy, and is one of the top students there, both in academics, and skill level. She and her partner Soul had already collected the necessary 99 pre-kishin souls that a meister and weapon team require to upgrade the weapon into a death scythe, and were working on collecting their last soul (one belonging to a witch) when they made a mistake, and were forced to start all the way from the beginning again, with zero souls.

Re: Maka Albarn 2/?
[info]sani_caranza
2009-07-30 01:31 am UTC (link)
Personality: Maka is a very diligent student and is at the top of her class in school: A trait of hers that puts her in direct contrast to her rather lazy partner Soul, and causes a few arguments between the two. However she may act though, she respects and cares for Soul deeply. She is a caring individual by nature and is also shown to have a great deal of patience, though not so much with her father and Soul. She often resorts to violence with those two individuals, hitting them over the head with a book. She enjoys reading for fun, and can often be found curled up on the couch doing just that.
Although she is very studious, she is still a laid back individual, and does not seem to stress very easily, at least in academic situations. One of her larger flaws is that when she is placed in a situation where somebody she cares about may be injured or hurt, she often reacts rashly and impulsively. She is aware of this flaw, and works to correct it, but often falls back into it. One of her more exemplary attributes is her undying courage, something that many characters take note of as being her best quality. Maka is determined and strong willed, and is never the type to run away from a battle, or from a friend in need.
Due to her father’s infidelity, Maka has a strong hatred towards any man who cheats, and seems to categorize men in general as disloyal. However, though she often says this, it doesn’t seem to effect her relationships with any of the males in the series with the exception of her father, and very occasionally Soul. She is cold and violent towards her father, though usually in a comedic way, but she does truly love him (though I doubt there is any respect there). She also seems to respect and admire her mother a great deal, though Kami is yet to be seen.
Her most prominent relationship is that of the one between herself and her partner and weapon, Soul. Despite their differences, and their bickering, Maka trusts him with her life, and would risk her own for him. It is also worth noting that Maka can project herself into the dreamlike manifestation of her partner’s soul.

Powers and Abilities: Maka is a meister which means she has the ability to wield a weapon, but not a normal weapon, a weapon with a human form. In her case, her partner Soul takes on the form of a scythe. When a weapon and meister want to tap into an even greater amount of power, they can form a soul resonance, or a connection between their souls that amplifies all of their attacks. While in Soul resonance, Maka can use the attack “witch hunter,” as well as tap into an anti-insanity wavelength which protects the two of them from becoming corrupted by insanity. She is also a very capable physical fighter, and she has what is referred to as Soul Sense, or Soul Perception. It entails the ability to see the souls of any individual, and because hers is so strong, even individuals who are masking or cloaking their soul for one reason or another. This means she is aware of when someone is approaching her even if she cannot see them, (I assume this would need mod/mun permission)and also she can see the general mood or feelings of a soul(this would need mod/mun-permission as well). This extends to reading a soul’s major personality traits, as well as noticing when something makes the emotional state of a soul change.

History:
[Most of Zim’s known history only gets shown in the unfinished episode ‘The Trial’, which only exists as a script and which is what most of these information are taken from.]

Zim was born (or rather hatched) deep down below the surface of planet Irk within a common Irken birthing facility. He started his destructive career two minutes after he got activated and got the whole knowledge of his race downloaded into his PAK by causing the Horrible Painful Overload Day 1 with lots of explosions involved and the whole planet blackening out for the next 5 years. An unknown amount of freshly hatched and yet unhatched Smeets might have fallen victim to this event. This was followed by the Horrible Painful Overload Day 2 several years later when Zim decided his education is over. At least Irk only blacked out for 4 years this time. One may ask for details about these events, but expecting any understandable reasons here would just be plain wrong.

Like every Irken that gets trained to become part of the Irken military Zim went through many different kinds of training, all the while demonstrating his unique destructive ability. This gets him send to a Vortian reseach lab at one point during his existense since his superiors hoped he could use his talent in order to create new weapons. The one thing he created though (and Endless Energy Absorbing… Thingy) ended up killing the two prior Tallest Miyuki and Spork before vanishing into space to wreck havoc un unmentioned planets. On other accounts he managed to black out half of the Irken Military Training Planet Devastis and destroy a couple of planets and wreck havoc among his own kind during his further training. Obviously one planet even blew up just because he scratched his butt. No questions on this one, please.

Up until Operation Impending Doom I Zim managed to become part of the Irken Elite and got trained to be an Invader for reasons left unknown. In fact the Tallest had enough faith in him as to assign him a very special mission during the operation: Standing within a drawn circle to watch the other Invaders and not leaving said circle. Of course Zim left the circle, stole a Frontline Battle Mech and went on a rampage on his very own planet, single-handedly wrecking it and blowing up all the other Invaders while he was at it. This got him reencoded by the Control Brains as Food Service Drone and exiled to Foodcourtia, a planet that had been turned into a giant food court after having been conquered by the Irken Empire.

Though Zim quit being exiled once he heard about Operation Impending Doom II.

In an attempt of finally getting rid of Zim, the Tallest send him off to a suggested planet somewhere outside the known universe - Which happened to be Earth. Determined to proove his worth towards his almighty leaders the shortest Irken ever to become an Invader began his attempt of conquering the planet, just to get himself entangled in an endless loop of futileness and failures, partly due to his own unableness and partly due to his enemy, Dib. Every now and then Zim’s SIR unit GIR happens to ruin his master’s plans as well. Failure knows many ways. Surprisingly enough though he manages to safe the Earth a few times from other foes and sure destruction.

The actuall range of Zim's insanity was made apparent when the Tallest decided to put him on trial for his life to be judged by the Control Brains on the planet Judgementia. During this event Zim got declared a Defective, so his PAK was to be deleted and his whole existence exterminated. It turned out however, that three Control Brains weren't able to handle the vast insanity of Zim's personality stored within the Irken's PAK and went insane themselves, declaring Zim the most incredible Irken ever. Actually Zim was the only one to believe that and still does. Also he got awarded ten minutes of piloting The Massive – the giant flag ship of the Irken Armada.

Zim happily returned to his exile mission after this and might very well still be busy conquering Earth. Or saving it so that he can go on… Destroying it.

Character's Name: Sanae Hanekoma
Series: The World Ends with You

History: Little of Hanekoma's history is stated in canon, but he's been the Producer of Shibuya longer than Joshua has been its Composer: anywhere from several decades to a little over a century (Shibuya probably wasn't populous enough to be its own area before then.) Easygoing, casual and seemingly stuck in the style of a '60s hipster, his demeanor gives little clue to his age. Since he's an Angel, though, a few guesses can be made: first, he was a highly creative individual in life as well, someone possessed of a very powerful and independent Soul. Second, he played the Reaper's Game - under whatever rules prevailed in the area where he lived and died - won, and chose not to return to life. Instead, he was promoted to a higher Plane. His strong attachment to Shibuya suggests that he likely lived in the Tokyo area, perhaps while it was Edo; he was an artist in life, possibly working in woodcuts, almost certainly for a living, as a member of the merchant class or lower. He's had his coffee shop for a long time, although no one ever seems to go into it unless they have business with him. Similarly, he's been working as the anonymous artist, designer, and multitalent CAT for long enough to build up a network of contacts throughout Shibuya: probably at least ten years.

Currently, he spreads his time between his duties as the Producer (ensuring that Reapers follow the rules and providing the Composer and Conductor with whatever they need to carry out their jobs), his activities as CAT (probably the vast majority of his time, as CAT produces enough art, music, film and random street graffiti to convince others he's a whole design studio), running his cafe WildKat (overlaps CAT time, given that he uses the cafe as an office more often than he sells anything), and, possibly, eating and sleeping.

Personality: Superficially, Hanekoma fits the Expository Character archetype: wise, knowledgeable, and possessing a supernatural ability to always show up at exactly the right moment. In reality, he takes a far more active role in the events of the game. While appearing to play within the rules of the Game - which is in fact between the Composer and the Conductor, and which Hanekoma, as the Producer, should hold a neutral role in - Hanekoma does all he can to influence things so that Joshua will not ultimately destroy Shibuya. He saves Neku from erasure and provides him with the impetus to expand his horizons; he even goes so far as to break the rules of his position, becoming a Fallen Angel, by setting up Sho to attack Joshua directly and telling Sho how to refine Taboo Noise. Hanekoma cares deeply for Shibuya and its inhabitants, and will go to great lengths to protect them. He seems to have great affection for all humanity, particularly those people who exhibit unusual imagination or determination. Even outside of Joshua's game, Hanekoma makes efforts to improve Shibuya; his artwork as CAT, which is extremely popular in the area, carries subliminal messages to attract people of exceptional soul and to increase their imagination and involvement.

Despite his affection for people in general, Hanekoma isn't much of a softy. He maintains the same jovial, generous, no-bullshit attitude with everyone he talks to, from Beat to Joshua himself. Though he does care about people, often very much, he won't let that stop him from doing his job (until the point of all of Shibuya being endangered; that's enough to make him break the rules. Nothing less.) He helps out the Players and makes sure that the Reapers obey the rules, but he won't interfere with people's erasure if it follows those rules. He's free with information, but only the information that he wants to give, and he has no qualms about shutting down lines of conversation he doesn't feel like getting into. He doesn't coddle people, either; the joviality can switch to a very serious lecture if someone's endangering their lives or another's in his vicinity. Despite his responsible appearance, though, he claims to be a gambler, and he does take a lot of risks in his actions during the game. While, like any gambler, he likes to win and will do his best to make sure the odds are slanted his way, he has no qualms about taking risks - even extreme ones, like giving powerful and forbidden information to Sho in order to impede Joshua.

Character's Name: Franklin Delano Donut
Series: Red vs. Blue (post Reconstruction, pre Recreation)

History: Donut, the rookie of the Red Team, joins the Red team at Blood Gulch relatively early in the series. Grif and Simmons, two other members of Red Team, send him on a fool's errand to the "store" (a non-existant place) for some headlight fluid and elbow grease. Mistaking the Blue Base for the store, Donut takes the Blue Team's flag so he won't go home empty handed. This sparks the first battle in the series, as other members of the Blue Team try to take it back from him. They mistake him for the sergeant of the Red Team, as both of them have the same color armor. This battle causes one of the Blue Team members to die and a Freelancer to be called into the canyon. This same freelancer, Tex, later throws a plasma grenade on Donut's head and gets him rushed back to Command when it explodes.

Eventually, Donut returns from Command. He tells the other members of his team that "Command was so happy with me, they gave me my own colored armor!" Unfortunately for Donut, that color is pink. He refuses to call it that, instead referring to it as "lightish-red." From this point on, he suffers endless amounts of jokes and teasing at his expense due to the fact that his armor is, in fact, pink. When the Blue Team attacks their base for the second time a little while later, Donut recognizes Tex and makes what can only be called a miraculous plasma grenade throw in revenge, killing her in the process.

After a series of hilarious but odd events, the Blue and Red teams end up working together against a common enemy, the AI known as Omega. When Omega manages to escape the canyon, each team leaves behind one member to stand guard there while the rest hunt him down. Donut is the unlucky member chosen by Red Team, and is left with the Blue Team's tank, Sheila. This, of course, represents an imbalance in his opinion. In another unlucky coincidence, Tex returns as a ghost almost immediately after all of the other members leave, recognizing Donut as her killer.

Donut eventually rejoins the rest of his team on Sidewinder, after they have tracked down Omega. However, a bomb blast propels most of the characters (him included) forward in time. After getting used to their new surroundings, Donut distracts the members of the Blue Team with a very odd and convoluted story so that the other Reds can investigate a distress signal. He rejoins them after stealing a Hovercraft from Omega and dubs it the Motorcycle.

The distress signal is coming from the same canyon they had left in their pursuit of Omega. After Simmons is banished from the Red Team for claiming that Sheila is still driving around in the canyon, Donut is made their sergeant's right hand man.

In yet another unlucky turn of events, a giant ship crashes into the canyon a little while later, landing on Donut in the process and is forced by the impact into a series of underground caves. He wanders around down there for at least a few days, discovering two sets of armor (one cobalt blue and the other black). Deciding to wait around for the members of his team to find him, he finds Sarge in the caverns and helps him look for Simmons after they make contact. At the end of the original series, he helps Sarge come up with a plan to take over Blue Base once it is discovered that they are on their way to Red Base. Donut is last seen standing with the other members of his team, watching as the ship carrying Tex and Omega is blown up by a bomb named Andy.

Personality: When the series first starts, Donut is the "serious," yet stupid, addition to the Red Team. This is quite different compared to the lazy and bored pair of Simmons and Grif. He has a very special, yet likable personality. While he acts kind of childish, he likes to maintain an image that he knows what he's doing (even if it's obvious that he doesn't). For example, when Grif corrects him on his poor sense of direction, he says "I knew that! Got turned around, that's all." Donut is also a little gullible, believing that headlight fluid and elbow grease are items that actually exist in the canyon. He seems to be very uncomfortable with, or a little afraid of, the idea of spiders. When Simmons and Grif try to describe the plasma grenade that's landed on his head, Donut quickly asks "Is it a spider? Get it off!"

As the series progresses, he loses that sense of "seriousness" and becomes one of the sillier characters in the series. After he returns from Command with his pink armor, his personality gradually shifts. Donut becomes increasingly flamboyant, and often says things hinting (both subtly and not) to his sexual orientation. He is often referred to by Sarge as feminine nicknames like "pretty in pink" and "cupcake." In fact, the entire Blue team thought that he was a girl after he returned with his pink armor.

His femininity doesn't change after they learn he is a man, however. In season three, Donut complains to Tucker that Sheila and Tex are only talking about girl stuff, and not the fun girl stuff like ribbons and unicorns. When he is possessed by Omega at the end of the original series, Donut talks about wage difference and how "men automatically assume they know everything." And, when given a chance to see Grif's sister naked in the Blue base, he only comments on how much more natural light the Blue base gets, when compared to their own. According to him, it makes the base look so much more airy and roomy.

While he claims to hate his pink armor with a passion, insisting that everyone refer to it as lightish red, he finds that it does have a few advantages over the other sets of armor. Donut claims that the pink armor is more roomy and comfortable compared to his old set.

Powers and Abilities: He is a damn good grenadier, which comes from his experience of "years of tossing." He also has the ability to annoy others around him with his tendency to talk about inconsequential matters. For example, his musings about the Phillips screwdriver: "I never knew a Phillips screwdriver was the X one. Do you think it's named after a guy named Phillip? That guy Phillip must have a fucked-up-shaped head!" He also has the (in)ability to not know where he's going; other members of his team have had to correct him numerous times on his lack of direction. He is also surprisingly good with driving, as he is the only one on his team able to operate a Hovercraft.

Memory Lost: His pink armor. This doesn't mean that he's lost his memory of everything that happened after he received it; he's just lost the memory of having pink armor. In his mind, he's always had the standard issue red armor he was first seen in, and experienced the events of the series that way.

Reason: The pink armor seems to define who Donut is as a person. If you compare what his personality is like in episode 3 of the first season (when he first arrives and is wearing "standard issue red") to how he acts at any point in the second season or beyond (when he has his pink armor), one can see how drastically different his personality is. It could even be said that the pink armor drives him a little insane. If the memory of the pink armor is taken away, it could potentially change the inner workings of his mind and the personality he presents to those around him.

Character's Name: Death the Kid

Series: Soul Eater

History: Death the Kid is the son of Shinigami-sama, founder and head of Shibusen academy for weapons and meisters, the purpose of which is to prevent Kishin (demon gods) from rising to power. As such, it is Kid’s duty to one day succeed his father as Shinigami, and as head of Shibusen. Though his father mentions that Kid does not need to collect souls, Kid has chosen for now to live as a meister, collecting kishin souls with his two weapons, Liz and Patti. Though most of his past is unknown, it has been revealed that he found Liz and Patti on the streets of New York and wanted them as his weapons because of the symmetry of their forms as twin guns. After enrolling in Shibusen, he has become close friends with Soul, Maka, Tsubaki, and Black Star, and the seven of them often work as a team.
In most-recent chapters, Kid has been “collected”—in essence abducted—by Noah, who is also set on killing Maka. Currently, Death the Kid is trapped in Noah’s Book of Eibon, and determined to free himself and help her, as well as his other friends.

Personality: One of the main aspects of Death the Kid’s personality is his severe OCD, which manifests itself through his obsession over symmetry. Everything around him, as well as his clothes, the state of his house, his weapons, etc. must be symmetrical, or Kid is apt to start fixing it or—if he fails to do so—he despairs at the asymmetrical state of things. He is prone to spells of depression and self-loathing caused by his inability to make something perfectly symmetrical, or by the mentioning of the three white stripes on the left side of his hair, which he views as disgusting for not being balanced out on the other side. However, if he makes an effort, he can keep this obsession in check during dire situations.
Aside from his often comical OCD, however, Kid is actually a very serious character, with a strong sense of justice, and devoted to his duties as son of Shinigami-sama and as a meister. He cares deeply for Shibusen and its students, and is especially protective of his friends. In one of the opening chapters of the manga, Kid decides to become a Shibusen student with the intention of helping Soul, Maka, Black Star, and Tsubaki—who later become his close friends—during a fight in which he believed they would be killed. Later, in recent chapters, when he is captured by the enemy, he quickly throws aside Liz and Patty (in gun form) so they will not be captured with him. When his captor (Eibon) reveals his goal to kill Maka, Kid threatens him in rage, declaring he’ll make sure that Eibon regrets even touching her.
Kid is generally polite, very well-spoken, and dresses in business-like attire, his wardrobe consisting of mostly suits in dark colors. Usually, he tends to act more mature than his peers as well, though he gets easily and almost childishly excited over symmetrical things. He is shown reading and researching, usually matters related to gaining information about Shibusen enemies, and despite not having great marks at school, Kid can be very studious if he sets his mind to it.

Powers and Abilities: Kid is a meister at Shibusen Academy and wields the “twin gun” sisters Liz and Patty. These guns condense his soul’s energy into bullets rather than needing actual ammunition, allowing for versatile power to the shots. When connected to his partners in “Soul Resonance,” Liz and Patti turn into a double canon which fires off a tremendous amount of power. He is also a very capable martial artist, utilizing powerful strikes and kicks that make him a formidable opponent even without his weapons.
In addition to his abilities as a meister, Kid has powers specific to him as a shinigami. Though the full extent of these abilities is unknown, Kid is potentially capable of enormous levels of soul energy, as according to the Lines of Sanzu in his hair, which show him to be only at about half-strength because he is a young shinigami. Kid’s body can also withstand much more damage than a human body could: he heals quickly, cannot be sunburned, and is even capable of reattaching severed limbs.

Memory Lost: Death the Kid will lose the memory of the purpose of Shibusen, which also encompasses the loss of his purpose as the shinigami who is meant to one day run the academy and protect the world from the dangers of kishin and witches.

Reason: As Shinigami-sama’s son, it is Death the Kid’s duty to succeed his father, take over Shibusen, continue training weapons and meisters, and keep evil kishin and witches from rising to power. Kid takes his duty very seriously, always willing to stand against the supernatural dangers and intent on keeping the academy and the world safe from them. He cares deeply for Shibusen and its students, and wishes to protect them. If he were to lose the memory of Shibusen’s purpose, however, he in essence loses his own purpose for existing. He would forget that Shibusen was a school for meisters and weapons, and though he would still know of the existence of these, he will not remember that they trained at the academy. Also, though he would know of the existence of kishin and witches, he would forget that he and Shibusen should be destroying them. He would remember that he and his father are shinigami, as well as the fact that he has supernatural powers, but he would not recall that their purpose is to protect souls.

Character's Name: Im Yong-Soo (South Korea)
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia

History: While the nation of Korea has been around since 2333 BCE, Yong-Soo appears to be the youngest of the Asian Nations, at a human age between fifteen or sixteen. It hasn’t been shown yet whether or not he represents ancient Korea and the Three Kingdoms as well (don’t you just love the complexities of Hetalia? So do we). He has only so far appeared in the modern strips where he wants to build tunnels; watch dramas and cop a feel off China or Japan—whichever one is closer at the time. But in his original profile, Yong-Soo is said to represent the Southern half of the Korean peninsula (otherwise supported by his stated birthday and flag), so for now I’ll start with the history of the split.

In the late nineteenth century, Russia took an interest in northeast Asia the way America took interest in the West and California (it was new, shiny and promised grand opportunities). So Russia decided to build a railway through it to transport people and goods across Siberia into this new frontier. The best route for the Trans-Siberian railway was through Manchuria—a neighbor of Korea’s. Japan worried that Russia would expand into Korea (and Russia was eyeing Korea’s…fine natural resources), and they got into a competition over the area, which led to the Russo-Japanese war in 1904-1905. Japan won that, much to Russia’s embarrassment.

In 1905, a treaty was signed that allowed Japan to make Korea a protectorate before annexing it five years later. The relationship later, between Japan and Yong-Soo, was not a pleasant one. At all. To say the least, Japan was stifling, and a bit overzealous with “sharing” his culture with Yong-Soo (at the expense of his own). Because of this, and the events that transpired during World War II, the people of Korea were a little more pro-Russia than they were in favor of Japan, because Russia was Japan’s rival for influence in the region. By the end of WWII when the Allied forces won over Japan, a good number of the Korean population was pro-Soviet.

On August 15th, 1945, the Allied forces split Yong-Soo and North Korea (who has not appeared in canon yet). Not with masking tape down the center of the country, but the 38th parallel: so the Russians could take responsibility for Japan’s surrender in the north, and the United States could do the same in the south—Yong-Soo’s place. This was intentional on the US’s end to prevent the entire peninsula from becoming one with Russia. They told Russia to stay on their side of the line, and they did, which the United States failed to recognize was probably due to the fact that Russia was satisfied with just the north.

Yong-Soo’s postwar fate was dominated not only by the hostility between Russia and America, but also trouble in his own backyard, so to speak, between himself and his sibling that they could not seem to reconcile, who was supplied by Russia with weapons and Communist propaganda. The 38th parallel, which was only meant to be a temporary dividing line, became a political boundary.

In 1950 their friction turned into a war, when North Korea crossed the line and invaded Yong-Soo. The conflict brought in other involved parties on both sides; even China intervened on North Korea’s side, which was particularly disillusioning for Yong-Soo, who loves his brother Yao (China). The war ended in a ceasefire in July of 1953, though tensions still remain between North Korea and Yong-Soo. There were some hopes in the seventies that a way towards unification might be found, but fixed suspicions broke the talks off. That and Yong-Soo’s leaders are determined to keep their society Communism-free.

Yong-Soo continues to have a close relationship with the United States, and has also taken a significant interest in Canada. And though he claims to hate Japan, he’s often copying him, and has a very interesting theory about Japan’s breasts and his ownership over them. On the other hand Yong-Soo will go out of his way to disagree with him, and side with America instead. When asked about his complicated relationship with Japan, Yong-Soo will merely tell you that “tsundere originated from him.” He is obsessed with Yao, refers to him as a brother and wants his attention and acknowledgement.

Personality: Yong-Soo is the physical embodiment of South Korea, AKA his perceived center of the known universe and the apartment below. And he is more than happy to talk your ear off about all the things that originated from him, from Confucianism to postage stamps to the country of China. Nine out of ten times his claims are wrong, but trying to tell him as much is like trying to tell a brick wall to kindly move itself.

He is always going his own way, eager to be involved, and driven by the desire to be acknowledged for what he brings to the rest of the world. He lives his life straightforwardly with a flair for overreacting, as if he is living one of the Korean dramas he will jump a bench of old ladies to get home in time for the next episode, to find out which lucky sap gets the girl, and which one is met with a terrible fate for being rejected—as many of these things end. It is not uncommon for him to pose in front of a camera, either (Vogue originated in Korea, don’t you know).

Character's Name: Alfred F. Jones (America)
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia

History: ( Sorry, this was as condensed as I could make it. If I left any events out, it does not mean I do not consider them important, but there is just simply too much to include in this application. I took a few liberties in describing Alfred’s reaction to some of these as well, since the actual comics don’t get that in depth.)

After Alfred was discovered by the other nations, the main competitors in the "Battle for America" were Francis (France) and Arthur (England). When he was given a choice between the two of them, he ultimately chose Arthur, signaling the beginning of their close relationship. Because Arthur had business to take care of back in his own country, Alfred was mainly left to his own devices in America. He missed Arthur’s company during those times, but made the best of the situation when Arthur did drop by to visit. At one point, Arthur’s parting words to Alfred were: “Do your best and become stronger.” The latter took those words to heart and by the year 1775 his country had grown tremendously—enough to seek independence from Arthur’s.

The conclusion of the French and Indian War lead to a series of taxes and laws in the colonies and, despite Alfred and Arthur’s ties to one another, the British Parliament eventually proved too oppressive for Alfred’s people to handle. One of the Shots Heard ‘Round the World was fired at Concord, and fighting finally broke out between their respective countries. The Revolutionary War had several major consequences for Alfred and his people; they grew to value the idea of freedom and equality, Alfred found his birthday with the issuing of the Declaration of Independence, and his country was propelled into the world’s spotlight when it emerged as the victor in the war.

Humans have proven to be extremely contradictory creatures at times, and Alfred’s people were not exceptions. Though Alfred himself had faced Arthur on the battlefield, demanding his independence from the latter, slavery in the States only grew as an issue until the mounting tensions between the slave states and the free states resulted in the Civil War. Devastating as all wars are, the War Between the States allowed the slaves to be freed, and eventually lead to Alfred’s change from “the United States are” to “the United States is.”

By the time World War I came around, Alfred’s country was pursuing isolationism. Even when a German U-boat sank the British liner Lusitania, killing 128 Americans, America did not enter the fray. Though Alfred himself had been enraged, President Woodrow Wilson, his boss at the time, had the final say in the matter, stating that “America is too proud to fight.” It wasn’t until the Zimmerman telegram was intercepted that Alfred’s boss gave in, joining the Allies as an “Associated Power.”

Once World War I had ended, Alfred developed a close relationship with fellow nation Toris (Lithuania). The War had left Toris’ country extremely poor, and he lived in Alfred’s house for a while as a result. The two of them got along extremely well, despite some of Alfred’s quirks—talking to whales and aliens, for example. At one point, Toris did admit that he’d had to deal with Felix (Poland) and Ivan (Russia) before; after those two, getting along with Alfred was nothing difficult. However, this easy-going relationship between Alfred and Toris ended when Alfred’s eagerness to mass produce in the factories lead to the Great Depression.

History, Continued

In an eerie mirroring of the first Great War, America chose to remain neutral when World War II first broke out. This time, however, Alfred began saving the day like the hero he is supplying the Allies with materials instead of completely staying out of the picture as he did before. Then, Pearl Harbour was attacked, and Alfred’s boss prompted America to officially join the Allies against the Axis Powers. The decision to enter the war proved to be beneficial, as it helped increase America’s industrial capacity. The Hiroshima bombing, which resulted in the official end of the war, also showed the other nations what Alfred’s newly developed nuclear weapons were capable of.

Wielding such power, of course, had its adverse consequences, especially since America and the Soviet Union emerged from World War II as the leading military powers. Relations between Ivan and Alfred were strained, despite the two of them being allied against the Axis Powers. Alfred was not the only Nation concerned about the Soviet Union—Arthur and his Prime Minister Winston Churchill were also uneasy about the threat the Soviet Union posed. Kennan and Novikov’s telegrams only added to the tension between Ivan and Alfred, while strengthening the bond between Alfred and Arthur. This was particularly true after Churchill delivered his “Iron Curtain” speech, which called for an alliance between America and Britain against the Soviet Union. Though it could be debated that the action was mainly an effort to combat communism, Alfred stayed true to his “hero” image, offering help to all European countries with the Marshall Plan. The situation only worsened from there, as the tension lead to threats of nuclear annihilation, the Korean War, the Berlin Wall, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Eventually, the Soviet Union was dissolved, effectively ending the Cold War.

(Stopping here before it gets too long)

Personality:

Alfred is incredibly easy-going, friendly, and is too preoccupied with what others think of him, at times. Though he is able to get along with other people quite easily, there will be times when he puts his foot in his mouth and loses any sort of good will he’d earned. This can be attributed to his inability to “read the atmosphere”, as he does not usually want to offend or hurt the person he is conversing with. Thankfully, Alfred comes equipped with a charming personality, and most of the time, he ends up convincing the wronged-party to forgive him without even realizing it. He is incredibly optimistic, and fiercely loyal to the people he cares about.

One of the most noticeable aspects of his personality, one could see it within just hours of meeting him, is his hero-complex. Alfred is always preoccupied with “saving” other people, always wanting to be the hero who leads his comrades into the fray and is recognized for his deeds. This hero-complex is obvious even back when he chooses Arthur over Francis in the “Battle for America.” When he sees how distressed Arthur is, Alfred immediately heads toward him, thinking that Arthur is in need of comfort. A favorite phrase of Alfred’s is: “I’m the hero!”

Alfred can be incredibly self-conscious at times, especially when it comes to his weight. He is willing to try many different diets just to keep his weight “normal”, even if he is unable to give up his all time-favorite hamburgers. He also hates the cold, is terribly frightened of ghost stories, but is strangely fascinated with all things extra terrestrial.

Powers and Abilities:

Because of his almost super-human strength, Alfred can easily lug a car around without breaking a sweat. Though he’s a bit rusty with his boxing—which he loved watching back in the day—and hand-to-hand combat, his strength more than makes up for that.

Alfred’s main weapon of choice is the gun. Though he only carries one with him nowadays, he is certainly capable of using two at the same time as he did when he was fascinated with the cowboy image.

He can communicate with aliens, as he has an extra terrestrial friend named Tony…

Character's Name: England/Arthur Kirkland
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia

History:
I won’t be able to cover all of his history, but will try my best to condense the important events. I will not be covering much of the early history, because England changed names and people for awhile, and also because the comic depicts Arthur as a child during the Middle Ages.

As the personification of a country, Arthur has seen more than anyone’s fair share of war, depressions, and the like, due to being long-lived.

Britannia was visited and conquered by Roma Antiqua (the Roman Empire) twice, whom asserted his culture and history upon Britannia. He introduced many things and modernized Britannia, leaving a legacy still apparent today.

The Anglo-Saxons settled in and created kingdoms in England, forcing the Britons to retreat. The unification of England eventually happened in the tenth century.

Arthur was a child in the Middle Ages, already despising Francis (France), but secretly admiring and copying his hair and clothing style. He then spent hundreds of years warring with Francis over nearly everything, but usually over territory. They argue over everything, always trying to one up each other. Whenever they fight, no matter the winner, both fall sick.

The Black Plague nearly killed Arthur, wiping out seventy percent of his population. Nations are inextricably tied to their people. Their thoughts and welfare directly affect the Nation they live in.

History continued.

Arthur and other European Powers were in a race to explore and expand their empires, each intent on being the first to arrive and claim the New World. Arthur and Francis ended up being the main competitors to win Alfred’s (America) affection, and therefore gain a colony. Eventually Alfred chooses Arthur, which was the beginning of their close relationship. Arthur doted on Alfred, raising his ‘brother’ to the best of his abilities, despite having to spend much of his time overseas in England. As Alfred grew older, Arthur imposed more restrictions, taxes, and laws, straining their relationship to the point where Alfred decided to seek independence, leading to the Revolutionary War.

Arthur’s defeat meant the end of their close relationship as brothers, and Alfred’s independence as a new nation. Arthur completely shifted his attention to his colonies in Asia, the Pacific, and Africa, building up his empire.

He was threatened with invasion and as an empire by France, whose boss, Napoleon, nearly succeeded in taking over Europe. Arthur eventually won, emerging as the principal naval power of the 19th century, and remained so until the 20th century.

The Kingdom of Great Britain was created in 1707 by the union of England and Scotland. About a century later, Ireland merged with Britain to form the United Kingdom. Ireland eventually had a war of independence and broke free in the early 1900s, with Northern Ireland deciding to remain as part of the UK. As a result, Arthur’s Nation name was changed to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Arthur and his empire, Francis, and Ivan (Russia) created the Triple Entente in WWI to fight the Central Powers, with other nations, such as America, joining later to create the Allied Powers. With the defeat of the Central Powers, Ludwig (Germany), Roderich and Elizaveta (Austro-Hungarian Empire), and Sadiq (Ottoman Empire) all ceased to be major imperial powers. Ivan too ceased to be a major power, causing the Soviet Union to eventually form. European nationalism, repercussions of Ludwig’s defeat, and the Treaty of Versailles eventually led to the beginning of WWII.

Arthur and Alfred’s relationship was lukewarm at best (if a bit frosty), as they only manage to be cordial for diplomatic and trading purposes. It wasn’t until WWII that their relationship finally started improving. After the defeat of Arthur’s European allies in the first year of WWII, he was the only one of the Allies to oppose the Axis Powers, and was constantly attacked through aerial warfare by Ludwig. Alfred eventually joined the Allies, working side by side with Arthur to help defeat Ludwig, Kiku (Japan), and Feliciano (N. Italy). The integration of their military efforts was a to a degree unprecedented among major allies in history, so that Arthur’s boss, Churchill, named the ties between Arthur and Alfred as a “Special Relationship.” Since then political, economical, and social ties have been extremely close between the two.

The aftermath of WWII signaled the end of the British Empire, with colonies either becoming fully independent or joining the Commonwealth of the UK. In the 20th century, devolved national administrations were established for Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

Character's Name: Dib
Series: Invader Zim

History: Dib is a child with an abnormally large head. His family is kind of weird and consists of his father and sister. His father barely notices he exists, and frequently accuses Dib of being insane. Dib’s sister just hates his guts.

When Zim starts attending school, Dib immediately recognizes him as an alien. Though no one believes him because their all kind of stupid. And Zim is very good at persuasion. Anyway, everyone in the class thinks Dib is crazy.

Later in the series, Dib acquires an Irken spaceship which he manages to fix up with his amazing intellect. Though with everyone still thinking he’s crazy, he still has a lot of problems.
Personality: Dib is an extremely smart individual which allows him to see through Zims disguise, and not fall for Zims persuasion techniques. Though he may be smart, Dib lacks little common sense, and tends to act before thinking a lot of things through.

He also has an obsession with the paranormal. This obsession leads to many outlandish claims and theories that lead people to think he’s crazy. This is probably why he’s so stuck on trying to expose Zim. He wants people to take him seriously. His way of doing this: Zim.

Other than that Dib is really loud, likes to point fingers at people, jumps to wild conclusions, and hates Zim. Oh how he hates Zim.
Powers and Abilities: Superior intellect. Dib is a computer wiz, and is capable of understanding advanced mechanics. (He rebuilt an alien spaceship I mean geez, this kids a genius…mostly.)
Memory Lost: His memories of Zim
Reason: Dib appreciates his rivalry with Zim. I mean, If Zim was gone, what would he do with his time? Zim is also kind of like Dibs ultimate goal. He spends the whole series trying to expose Zim for what he is: an alien. Zim is also his way of trying to make people think he isn’t crazy.

In short: Zim is the most important thing to Dib. Not in a creepy, “I love you” way. But in a: “I want people to stop thinking I’m crazy so just get over yourself and show everyone who you really are” kind of way.

First Person Sample: What the—where am I? I don’t remember this part of town…and where are all the people?

Wait…what if everyone was abducted by aliens! It explains everything! But that doesn’t really explain why I’ve never been here before…

Wait! What if I’m the one who’s been abducted by aliens! Maybe I’ve been taken and put into some sick alien experiment! But wait...this place looks like earth…maybe it’s an illusion?

Third Person Sample: He had to break a window. There was no way around it. There was no other way of finding information. Sure, he could just go and ask someone for help, but there was no one to ask. He had searched everywhere. He had even knocked on every door in sight, to no avail. So what else could he do?

With no one in sight, and him being lost who knows where, the only way he could possibly get any information would be to find a computer. Maybe it would contain something, something that could explain where he was and what he was doing there. The problem was: the door was locked.

If the city really was empty, breaking a window wouldn’t get him in trouble…would it? It would all be for the sake of gaining information after all. Well, his mind, which was prone to drawing odd conclusions, jumped to another one. What if the whole situation was a trap and breaking the window would give the aliens reason to attack, or worse, experiment on him. Yes, it was a ridiculous conclusion, but his situation was already bizarre. So given the circumstances, the conclusion he drew wasn’t so strange, was it?

Character's Name:Ivan Braginsky/Russia (Russian Federation)
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia

History: The country of Russia has been around since the ninth century, and throughout it's long and considerably bloody history (though short when compared to the histories of other sections of Europe, Eurasia and Asia) it has shown a pattern of rising in power, falling then being born from the ashes like a phoenix. The first Empire that Russia was considered apart of was called Keivan Rus'. This kingdom was also the root for the cultures of other Slavic countries particularly Ukraine, Russia's older sister. Though canonically, the early history of Ivan's childhood has only been portrayed in one strip, it is safe to say that during the Keivan Rus' period, Ivan lived with his older sister Ukraine (who does not have a human name as of yet) and his younger sister Natalia (Belarus) and together they were apart of the Keivan Empire as young children (whether there was an older personification of Keivan Rus' or otherwise, similar to the figure of Rome and Germania who looked after the young Slavic countries, has yet to be shown). In this one strip portraying his childhood, Ivan is given his signature scarf from Ukraine because he was cold and she told him that he could repay her by making Kiev successful.

Unfortunately, Ivan did not manage to make Kiev successful when around 1240 the empire, after being slowly weakened over the years met it's final blow with the Mongol invasion and enslavement of the majority of Eastern Europe. This was called the Golden Horde and in the case of Russia, it lasted until around 1400 when Ivan and his people rose from the ashes, and built a new Empire centered on Moscow called the Muscovite Empire. This Empire existed all the way up until 1605 and during his time as the Muscovite Empire, Ivan saw several rulers come and go, but one of the most notable was Ivan III (many of his bosses shared his name). Ivan III laid the foundations for a Russian national state and it was under him that the Empire tripled in size, absorbing it's neighboring countries of Novgorod and Tver. He also helped end the last remnants of the Golden Horde and claimed sovereignty over all Russian princes and nobles so that by the sixteenth century the core rulers in Moscow could claim the entire Russian territory as theirs. Essentially, he became a powerful autocratic ruler, but was not the first to call himself Tsar.

The next most notable ruler in the Muscovite Empire, and the first Tsar was another sharing Ivan's name: Ivan IV, or Ivan the Terrible. As his title implies, he was ruthless, but it is undeniable that he managed to influence Russia in ways that make it what it is today. One thing that he did, that had a great impact on the culture and development of Russia was to annex Siberia, Khanates of Kazan, and Astrakhan. This made Russia into a multiethnic country, brining in different races and religions into its population, an aspect that would influence the country's internal and foreign affairs for years to come. Towards the end of his rule, Ivan IV split Russia in two: oprichnina and the rest of the core Empire. Ivan IV's followers carried out several horrendous acts in oprichnina climaxing into the Massacre of Novgorod and this combined with military losses, epidemics, poor harvest weakened the country enough for the Crimean Tatars to invade and sack central areas of Russia as well as burn down his capital of Moscow. In the late fifteen-hundreds, Ivan the Terrible abandoned oprichnina.

After the death of Ivan IV's son who had no heirs, Russia entered what history calls “The Time of Troubles.” There were countless civil wars and foreign intervention as well as the Russian Famine of 1601-1603. In the strips there is the imposing figure of General Winter, in essence he is the cold harsh winter of Russia personified who comes to torment Ivan every year. In the time of troubles it was General Winter who caused the famine, killing the crops during the summer, a time that was supposed to be warm enough for harvest. Russia was wracked with internal chaos and in his vulnerable state was taken advantage of by foreign invasion of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth who also managed to install impostors onto the Moscow seat of power. Moscow revolted, but the people were suppressed and the city was once again set aflame. Eventually a volunteer army was organized in 1612 and the invasion was forced out of Moscow.

Again, after the time of troubles Russia had reached another low, laying in ashes, civil unrest and confusion and on the verge of collapse. But again he rose from the wreckage and in 1613 the Romanov Empire was born. Fortunately, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Sweden were at war with each other and no longer focusing on Russia, so in 1617, Russia managed to make peace with Sweden and in 1619, signed a truce with Poland-Lithuania. In the mid-seventeenth century Russia began recovering his lost territories, and also signed the Treaty of Pereyaslav, in which Russia granted protection of left-bank Ukraine, formerly under Polish rule. Once again, Ivan was united with his sister who had been in the hands of his enemy. But this treaty triggered a long war with Poland, which ended with Poland accepting the loss of Ukraine.

One of the most notable figures during the Romanov Empire was Peter the Great. During his rule, he made a secret alliance with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Denmark to fight against the Swedes in the Great Northern War to gain access to sea trade. After winning that war and gaining what he wanted, he founded St. Petersberg, a city farther northward and west than Moscow and made it Russia's capital instead to try and connect more with the powers and trade of Europe. In celebration of his many conquests, Peter titled himself Emperor as well as Tzar and thus Russia became the Russian Empire in 1721. For the rest of his rule, he made many reforms and modeled the Russian state system heavily after the west.

Forty years or so after Peter, the next great ruler was Catherine II, or Catherine the Great, a German princess who married the German heir to the Russian crown and had him assassinated, seeing him as too weak. Under Catherine, Russia successfully fought the Ottoman Turks and extended his border down to the black sea. Russia also allied with Austria and Prussia to incorporate Poland and Lithuania's territories and partitioned Poland many times, pushing the Russian frontier far into central Europe. By the time of her death, Russia had become a major European power. Since Catherine, Alexander I managed to gain Finland and Bessarabia. It was also during the time of Alexander that Napoleon of France invaded Russia in 1812. France's efforts were useless however as the usually harmful General Winter came to Ivan's aide, making Napoleon's campaign futile and allowing Russia to push his armies all the way to the gates of Paris. After his defeat of Napoleon, Alexander I was made Monarch of Congress Poland at the Congress of Vienna.

Character's Name: Yao Wang (China)

Series: Axis Powers Hetalia

History: China (Yao Wang) began as an agricultural economy and as effective farming increased the crop supplies, the Chinese population grew along side it. The establishment of the Grand Canal in 1411 also helped create effective transportation of crops between North and South China, but made short work of Chinese naval transport making it somewhat redundant. As a result, Chinese naval power suffered a gradual degeneration that would become a hindrance with trading bans. As China continued to grow, there was a shift from subsistence farming to trading and this change was encouraged by the more ready acceptance of currency as payment.

Regarding foreigners, China took a self-centric look on the world and assigned each foreigner a place in “China’s world”. Outsiders were subjected to the tribute system, customary gift-giving and kowtowing to the Chinese Emperor. It was a symbol of China’s superiority. But, the tribute system required China, as a nation, to be stronger than the other participating nation. During the early 1500’s and 1800, China was suffering a slow decline in power and watched as European nations worked beyond the bounds of the tribute system. China still accepted them, but held tightly to its belief in a China-centric world.

The Sino-Japanese War (1894-95) presented China’s weaknesses and allowed Japan to take control of areas in China (like Taiwan) as well as force China to accept the independence of Korea. Unable to prevent further occupation, China called on foreign support to keep Japan at bay. Russia, Germany, and France did step in, but more so for their own benefit. From here, China began to lose its power in Manchuria to Russia. The Russo-Japanese war only illustrated the extent of China’s lack of power in Manchuria and, to help keep itself together, the nation called on the United States in an attempt to convince the U.S. that a sovereign China was critical to East Asia. Eventually, the U.S. and Great Britain adopted the belief that allowing Manchuria to be lost would lead to further partitioning of China.

History Cont.: As Japan needed resources, China grew more conscious of the other nation’s desire to expand its territory in itself. Of course, China resisted and conflicts resulted in the Second Sino-Japanese War. China was at a disadvantage from the beginning as it was not as mechanized an industrial nation. Prior to the war, China and Germany had relations, but the cooperation ended when Germany sided with Japan to fight against the Soviet Union. Military assistance provided by Germany ceased and China was left to fend for itself. Until Pearl Harbour, the Sino-Japanese struggle was primarily a Chinese war. The Nanking Massacre also left notable results on China—his body. From the attack, China the nation has a massive gash running from his right shoulder to the left side of his lower back (China, as a person, thinks of this event often). After Nanking, China received some aid from Russia and continued to fight against Japan.

Personality: Yao presents himself with a kind of elegance that is far from arrogance, but not quite ‘noble’ either. Yao, put simply, is proud to be China, the highly cultured Asian nation. But Yao’s pride leads him to reminisce on the past when China was at its historical prime; he believes that those were simpler times and he wishes to bring history to present. Due to his desire, the world tends to move on without him, although he is forced to come to terms with the real world and cannot ignore the fact that he needs to continue to progress as a competitive, economic nation. Due to his need to cling to antiquated ways, others interpret Yao to be an ‘old man’—this appearance is only heightened by the fact that he suffers from slight joint pain and is canonically 4000 years old (but that’s his little secret, now isn’t it?).

When he is hurt, he prefers to take action if it is possible, but he would rather avoid confrontation to keep peace—he finds disharmony an unnecessary waste of time and energy. He does not like to share his more melancholy feelings with others and tends to confine them within himself. When he is irritated, he has no trouble openly explaining his discontent—he can be quite blunt about it and is physically expressive, so he is sometimes simply ignored or not taken seriously Sometimes, he will avoid talking altogether when he is annoyed simply because it is rude to mention certain things in public—another example of evading confrontation. This occurs most often with people Yao is unfamiliar with. When he is excited, he is uncharacteristically expressive and has been known to act in a fashion similar to a young child, hugely contrasting his ‘old man’ persona. But, in general, he likes to tend to himself.

Yao is quite adept at making things by hand and has a passion for traditional art, and though one might take him for an artist, his imitations are not convincing or desirable. The nation also has an obsession with cute things. Things he finds adorable can excite his emotions and can bring out his inner child. He has a sweet tooth and enjoys indulging in treats every once in a while, though his tastes are sometimes questionable. Though he does not like extreme physical exertion, Yao is an experienced martial artist, but he seldom uses his abilities unless provoked. If he uses his fighting against someone who is pestering him, it is usually not intended to hurt, merely intimidate. Oftentimes, it does not do its intended task though Yao, himself, is serious. In fact, watching him fight pestilence is quite humorous! Yet, he can deal massive damage to his opponents when he is being serious—better not cross his paths with him when he has an off day.
